SUMMARY:Rob & Tricia Morneau Memorial Baseball Tournament
DESCRIPTION:Rob & Tricia Morneau Memorial Baseball Tournament\nThe crack of the bat\, the scent of fresh-cut grass\, and the echo of cheers can only mean one thing — baseball is back in full swing. As players lace up their cleats and coaches finalize lineups\, Riverside is preparing for an event that is about more than just baseball. The annual Rob & Tricia Morneau Memorial Baseball Tournament is set to return\, honouring the memory of two local legends who lived and breathed the spirit of the game — Rob and Tricia Morneau. \nRob Morneau was not just a baseball enthusiast; he was a player\, coach\, mentor\, and passionate community member who believed in the deeper values of sport. A fixture at Riverside Baseball Park\, Rob could often be found on the diamond — chewing bubble gum\, sharing seeds with teammates\, calling games from behind the plate\, and instilling life lessons into his players. For Rob\, baseball was never just a game — it was an opportunity to build\ncharacter\, teach respect\, and\, most importantly\, have fun. It was at that same park where Tricia first saw Rob coaching her younger brother’s high school team and instantly knew he was the one. \nTogether\, Rob and Tricia became beloved figures in the Riverside baseball community. While Rob coached\, Tricia kept score\, organized fundraisers\, and provided the quiet support that held it all together. Their shared love for the game and for each other created a ripple effect that still echoes throughout the community today. \nSince its inception in 2017\, the Rob & Tricia Morneau Memorial Tournament has raised over $33\,000\, with all net proceeds supporting local initiatives such as the Farrow Riverside Miracle Park\, the Miracle League\, and assisting families in need with registration costs for Riverside Minor Baseball and Hockey — continuing Rob and Tricia’s legacy of inclusivity and opportunity for all children. \nThis year’s tournament will feature 18 competitive youth baseball games over three action- packed days between 8 spirited 13U A and Below Division teams. The tournament schedule will be posted on the website. Games will take place at two Riverside diamonds: \n\nRiverside Baseball Park – 6865 Ontario St.\, Windsor\, ON\nRealtor Park – 1200 Homedale Blvd.\, Windsor\, ON\n\nOpening ceremonies will kick off Friday\, June 20th at 7:00 p.m. at Riverside Baseball Park\, with the first games starting earlier that evening at 4:30 p.m. Miracle Park league games will be played throughout the day on Saturday with an open league play game and BBQ late in the afternoon/early Saturday evening. Get your tournament swag before June 14 on event website. \nWhether you’re playing\, coaching\, or cheering from the sidelines\, attendees are encouraged to honour Rob and Tricia’s memory by embracing the true spirit of the game — play hard\, show respect\, support one another\, and above all\, enjoy every moment with a smile. \nAs Rob himself once said: “When we step between the lines\, we compete.”

The Tigers will wear their sleek\, new City Connect uniforms – a celebration of the Motor City – for the first time this Friday\, May 10 against the Houston Astros at Comerica Park\, a 6:40 p.m. first pitch and again on Saturday\, May 11 at 6:10 p.m. as well as for Friday home games for the balance of this season.\n \nThe Nike MLB City Connect Series celebrates the deep-rooted history\, culture and spirit of each city that continues to bring the clubs and their communities together. This season\, nine clubs across the U.S. and Canada will debut City Connect uniforms.\n \n“We are excited to introduce the Tigers City Connect uniforms and celebrate the past\, present\, and future of the Motor City\,” said Ryan Gustafson\, President and CEO\, Ilitch Sports + Entertainment. “The City Connect uniforms represent Detroit’s unique combination of muscle and innovation and pay homage to the city that put the world on wheels. From the tire treads to the VIN tag to the M-1 patch on the sleeve\, there are unique features on the uniforms\, caps\, and batting helmets we feel Tigers fans and Detroiters will appreciate. Above all\, the uniforms are symbolic of the revitalization and exciting future ahead for the Tigers and our great city.”\n \nTIGERS CITY CONNECT – HERE IS OUR STORY\n\n \nThe Tigers City Connect uniforms are an ode to the Motor City\, a moniker bestowed upon Detroit in the early 1900s when it became the epicenter of the automotive industry\, putting the world on wheels\, and driving a significant part of Michigan’s economy. It defines who we are as Detroiters\, our unwavering drive\, steadfast resiliency\, and indomitable spirit. The Motor City represents the pride of its hard-working people and is proudly displayed across the chest of the City Connect jersey.\n \nAlong with paying tribute to the remarkable history of the automotive industry in Detroit\, the Tigers City Connect uniforms were created with the momentum of the city and its bright future in mind. The innovative and modern design presents a fashionable electric blue and dark navy-blue color combination with several features that will resonate with Detroiters\, Michiganders\, and Tigers fans everywhere.\n \nLike Detroit and the auto industry\, the Tigers hold fast to a storied history of both challenge and triumph. While paying homage to our past\, we enthusiastically turn the page toward a future brimming with opportunity. It’s a revitalization in parallel – the resurgence of Detroit\, the innovation within the auto industry and the transformation of the Tigers ballclub – all converging at a pivotal moment and better than before. The Tigers City Connect illustrates the foresight to shift into a new era of excellence as we drive our forward-thinking\, building something special through technology\, youthful energy\, and optimism.\n \nStanding side by side with the people of Detroit and the auto industry\, it’s the numbers that prove our Motor City story. Where Michigan is #1 in the nation for automotive manufacturing jobs (6X higher than the national average); accounting for 1.1 million automotive or mobility jobs representing 20% of the state’s workforce; and 21% of all U.S. auto production. Source: Detroit Regional Chamber\n \nWe are Detroit\, where innovation meets grit\, where excellence meets work\, where challenge meets resilience. We look forward through the windshield and no longer in the rear-view mirror. It’s us against everyone. We are Detroit\, where muscle meets brains. We are the Motor City.\n \nTIGERS CITY CONNECT DESIGN ELEMENTS AND INSPIRATION\n\n\nTIRE TREADS: Down the middle of the jersey is shaded in electric blue\, tire treads represent the wheels keeping the Motor City and the Tigers accelerating toward the future.\n\n\nM-1 – 313 PATCH: CRUISING ON WOODWARD: The 313 patch stitched on the left sleeve of the jersey takes you on a ride to M-1 – known to Detroiters as Woodward Avenue\, America’s first paved road in 1909. The baseball diamond-shaped patch features Detroit’s “313” area code\, with the number 1 bolded and emphasized to emulate the classic M-1 road signs. The iconic Woodward Avenue runs 27 miles long from the riverfront in downtown Detroit its southernmost point\, to the city of Pontiac on the north end.\nM-1 unites neighborhoods\, and is a central heartbeat of the city’s pride\, progress\, and potential. Generations of people have enjoyed their travels on Woodward Avenue whether to see its City of Champions sports parades\, the Thanksgiving Day Parade\, or hearing engines revving along the Dream Cruise – there is no doubt Woodward Avenue is Main Street in the Motor City.\n Comerica Park\, located at 2100 Woodward Avenue\, has served as the home of the Tigers since 2000. The ballpark hosted the 2006 and 2012 World Series\, the 2005 MLB All-Star Game\, and there continues to be investment in the fan and player experience to usher in the next era of Tigers fans and standouts on the field.\n\n\nSLEEVE TAPE: The Motor City for nearly a century long has been at the core of the racing industry. The addition of racing stripes at the bottom of each sleeve of the jersey is nod to Detroit’s central role in the racing industry and parallels the Tigers youthful speed and energy.\nVIN TAG: Much like every vehicle has its own unique VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)\, Detroit’s City Connect uniforms and caps will feature a VIN tag that is exclusive to the Tigers baseball club. The numbers are 190135456884\, which represent the first year of the club’s charter membership in the American League (1901)\, alongside 35\, 45\, 68\, and 84\, which celebrate Detroit’s four World Series Championships in 1935\, 1945\, 1968\, and 1984.\nTIGER EYES: “Tiger Eyes” symbolize the passion\, energy\, and tenacity of Detroiters and its baseball team. These “Tiger Eyes” appear near the beltline on the right side of the jersey and appear on the inside brim of the cap.\nTHE CAP: “DETROIT” adorns the Tigers dark navy-blue City Connect cap with the VIN tag on the right side.\nTHE BATTING HELMET: The Tigers City Connect batting helmets are electric blue with a similar gradient design seen on the jersey. Like the cap\, “DETROIT” is scripted across the front and includes the VIN tag on the right side with a matte finish. \n\n \nCITY CONNECT BLOCK PARTIES \nTo celebrate City Connect launch week\, presented by Meijer\, the Tigers and Nike will host a pair of free City Connect-themed block parties outside Comerica Park on Friday\, May 10 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.\, and Saturday\, May 11 from 12:00-6:30 p.m. The block parties will also feature live music on the Meijer Stage\, local food and beverage trucks\, muralists\, merchandise outlets with City Connect gear available for purchase\, giveaways\, a Kids Zone\, photo opportunities\, and a classic car show.

SUMMARY:BRIAN MASSE PROMOTING YOUTH IN SPORTS
DESCRIPTION:BRIAN MASSE PROMOTING YOUTH IN SPORTS\nBrian Masse M.P. (Windsor West) and Windsor West Little League (WWLL) are hosting a Free baseball clinic for children ages 4-17 this Saturday\, March 23rd from 4PM-6PM at the Toldo Lancer Centre\, 2555 College Ave. \nAs a long-time local sports institution\, WWLL has provided a fun and supportive environment for the youth to play baseball in Windsor West since 1956. WWLL is based out of Mic Mac Park in Windsor\, with Divisions ranging from age 4 to 18. WWLL is a Baseball league run strictly by volunteers. In supporting this baseball clinic initiative\, the goal is to attract more youth in Windsor West to register for Little League baseball. www.wwll.ca \nBaseball Event Ambassador Lith Webb an elite-level softball player\, inducted into the Windsor Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame in 2020 and then inducted into the Windsor- Essex Sports Hall of Fame in 2023. Lith is a 4x Team Canada player\, a member of the1996 Canadian Women’s Olympic Softball Team. Her passion is helping young people actualize their athletic goals through mentoring\, coaching on and off the field while providing practical tools to improve skill level. \nThank you to the many community partners such as the Windsor Police Community Service Branch\, Steve Pronger with Take a Shot Sports\, University of Windsor Lancer Men’s Baseball Team\, Lancer Women’s Softball Team\, Windsor Lady Expos coached by Kelli Paquette\, Mike Morencie from Nantais Athletics Inc.\, Mike Dugal with ASSIST Group\, Taryn Riley-Webb Store Manager from Giant Tiger West and PaxPitch Sports for their involvement in promoting youth in sports. \nWindsor Police Services’ Community Service Branch officers will also be available to raise community awareness of policing issues to gain greater community support and involvement. \nTake a Shot Sports is a community-based sports program that offers free skills training and game play development for youth between 8 and 11 years of age who have definite barriers of entry into the sport. \nASSIST Group has been helping youth participate in sports since 2007\, a grassroots group of people with a lifelong passion for sports committed to raising funds to help kids experience the joy of participating in organized games. \n“Since 1999\, I have personally supported Windsor West Little League\, as I truly believe that sport is a valued activity that can be used to promote physical activity and positive youth development while nurturing the qualities and attributes to build self-confidence.” stated Masse. \nWindsor West Little League (WWLL) President Yvette Temple stated\, “The benefits of the league to the kids are immense. Some ball players who began playing at WWLL ended up receiving athletic scholarships and some have even made it to the big leagues or semi-pro leagues all over North America. Another equally important benefit is that it keeps many kids off the streets and provides physical activity in the spring/summer months. Baseball\, like most sports\, teaches kids universal values\, principles and lifelong lessons. This weekend’s baseball clinic will provide an opportunity for kids to try baseball for the first time or improve basic skills in a large indoor venue at the Toldo Centre and hopefully kids will enjoy it and sign up for little league.”
