SUMMARY:Police and Firefighters “Battle of the Badges” Charity Hockey Game
DESCRIPTION:Police and Firefighters Face Off in “Battle of the Badges” Charity Hockey Game Supporting Local Cancer Research\nWindsor’s heroes are trading badges for hockey sticks as members of the Windsor Police Service and Windsor Fire & Rescue Service face off in the first annual Battle of the Badges charity hockey game — proudly in support of Play for a Cure and the Cancer Research Collaboration Fund (CRCF). \nThis inaugural event unites two of the city’s most dedicated first-responder teams for an evening of intense competition\, community pride\, and compassion. All proceeds will directly support local cancer research initiatives\, helping to advance innovative treatments and improve patient outcomes across Windsor-Essex. \n“Every goal scored helps move us closer to finding a cure\,” says Jeff Casey\, founder of Play for a Cure and Chair of the Cancer Research Collaboration Fund. “Battle of the Badges isn’t just about hockey—it’s about unity\, courage\, and standing together for those who need it most.” \n“These events provide the opportunity to meet and interact directly with our community and allow us to ‘Give Back!’” says Rob Hallett of the Windsor Police Service. “We encourage everyone to ‘Get Involved’ and work together with the\nWindsor Police Service to ‘Make a Difference’ in our community.” \nPat Lo Mascolo of Windsor Fire & Rescue Services adds\, “The Battle of the Badges is more than a hockey game—it’s about building community partnerships and showing that when we work together\, we can create lasting\, positive change. Our\nfirefighters are proud to stand beside our police colleagues in support of cancer research and the families who are impacted every day.” \nFans can expect a high-energy\, best-on-best matchup featuring family entertainment\, community partner activations\, and special appearances. Both teams will take the ice in custom Play for a Cure jerseys honoring those affected by cancer. \nPlay for a Cure unites athletes\, fans\, and the community in the fight against cancer. In partnership with the WindsorEssex Community Foundation (WECF)\, proceeds from Play for a Cure events — including the Pro-Am Hockey Tournament and Battle of the Badges — are directed through the Cancer Research Collaboration Fund (CRCF) to support cutting-edge local research. Together\, these initiatives have raised more than $1.8 million to advance cancer research\, improve patient outcomes\, and strengthen health innovation across the Windsor-Essex region.

SUMMARY:The Push-Up Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The Push-Up Challenge\nCMHA-WECB has joined The Push Up Challenge! \nThis February\, in support of CMHA\, people from across the country will come together to challenge themselves and push for better mental health – for themselves for their loved ones\, for their communities\, and for us all. \n2\,000 push-ups for the 20% of Canadians who will experience a mental illness each year. \nGet involved in The Push-Up Challenge and not only will you have a bit of fun\, but you can help Canadians get the mental health support they urgently need. \nIt’s free to sign up and with every push you can help save lives. \nHow it Works:\n1. Register\nRegistrations are open for The Push-Up Challenge 2024. Register here: https://www.thepushupchallenge.ca/home \n2. Join the challenge\nYou can take on the challenge on your own or create a team. Teams help build motivation and healthy competition. For groups of more than 10 people\, we suggest you create a community (a collection of teams). These work well for workplaces\, gyms\, schools and clubs\, or big groups of friends. \n3. Start pushing\nFrom February 1 to 23\, you’ll challenge yourself to complete 2\,000 push-ups – representing the 20% of Canadians who will experience a mental illness each year. \nEach day of the challenge\, you will receive a daily target with a corresponding mental health fact\, so you can learn while you push for better mental health. You can substitute push-ups with alternative exercises\, or aim for a smaller portion of the target if the full target is too challenging. \n4. Fundraise\nWhilst fundraising is an optional part of this event\, we do encourage it. Funds raised will go towards the Canadian Mental Health Association who support people living with mental illness\, as well as preventing mental ill-health and promoting mental health and resilience for all Canadians.
