SUMMARY:The Push-Up Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The Push-Up Challenge\nCMHA-WECB has joined The Push Up Challenge! \nThis February\, in support of CMHA\, people from across the country will come together to challenge themselves and push for better mental health – for themselves for their loved ones\, for their communities\, and for us all. \n2\,000 push-ups for the 20% of Canadians who will experience a mental illness each year. \nGet involved in The Push-Up Challenge and not only will you have a bit of fun\, but you can help Canadians get the mental health support they urgently need. \nIt’s free to sign up and with every push you can help save lives. \nHow it Works:\n1. Register\nRegistrations are open for The Push-Up Challenge 2024. Register here: https://www.thepushupchallenge.ca/home \n2. Join the challenge\nYou can take on the challenge on your own or create a team. Teams help build motivation and healthy competition. For groups of more than 10 people\, we suggest you create a community (a collection of teams). These work well for workplaces\, gyms\, schools and clubs\, or big groups of friends. \n3. Start pushing\nFrom February 1 to 23\, you’ll challenge yourself to complete 2\,000 push-ups – representing the 20% of Canadians who will experience a mental illness each year. \nEach day of the challenge\, you will receive a daily target with a corresponding mental health fact\, so you can learn while you push for better mental health. You can substitute push-ups with alternative exercises\, or aim for a smaller portion of the target if the full target is too challenging. \n4. Fundraise\nWhilst fundraising is an optional part of this event\, we do encourage it. Funds raised will go towards the Canadian Mental Health Association who support people living with mental illness\, as well as preventing mental ill-health and promoting mental health and resilience for all Canadians.

SUMMARY:St. Clair Basketball Host Canadore and Niagara this Weekend
DESCRIPTION:St. Clair Basketball Host Canadore and Niagara this Weekend\nThe St. Clair College Basketball teams host their final OCAA West Division regular season home games this weekend at the SportsPlex as the Men face off against Canadore College (North Bay) Saturday night before Niagara College (Welland) visits for a doubleheader on Sunday. \nThe Canadore Men (3-12) will look to keep their playoff hopes alive and upset the Saints (11-3\, West 1st Place) who dropped slightly to the 11th ranked team in Canada and the 3rd spot in the OCAA poll. 4th year 6’2” swing player Thomas Gowland (Courtice\, ON) leads the Panthers at 17.1ppg which stands 8th provincially while 2nd year 6’0” guard Corey Boochoon (Sturgeon Falls\, ON) has made the 2nd most 3-pointers (45) in the province for Canadore as part of his 11.8ppg. 2nd year 5’9” guard Ty Huxtable (Orillia\, ON) sets the table for Canadore and averages the 2nd most assists at 6.7 per game to go with 14.4ppg. Rookie 6’2” forward Logan Whitmell (Sault Ste. Marie\, ON) rounds out the double-digit scorers for the Panthers at 12.6ppg. Tip time is set for 6:00pm on Saturday between Canadore and the St. Clair Men. \nSaints’ 5th year 6’4” forward Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough\, ON) is creeping up the provincial scoring charts and is now 5th best at 20.0ppg while adding 6.0 rebounds per game. 5th year 6’3″ guard Jesiah Deerr (Whitby\, ON) averages 15.2ppg for the Saints with rookie guard Andrew Loyuk (Windsor\, ON/Kennedy) leading the team with 4.1 assists per game (OCAA 5th) to go with 13.9ppg. The final Saints in double figures include 3rd year 6’7” transfer forward Mazin Tiea (Windsor\, ON/Kennedy) at 12.1ppg and 3rd year 6’4″ transfer forward Galdo Tutu (Windsor\, ON) at 10.4ppg. \nThe St. Clair Men are still the highest scoring team in the province at 97.3 points per contest while their Sunday opponent Niagara puts up 85.9 per game (OCAA 8th). Tip time is 3:00pm on Sunday for the Saints and Knights (10-5\, West T-2nd) in a game that will determine playoff positioning for the teams at the top of the division. Niagara has a balanced scoring attack with four players averaging double figures but with none over 14.0ppg while their approach spreads minutes amongst 11 players. 4th year 6’6” forward Kenneth Reckley Jr. (Nassau\, Bahamas) might be their most difficult match-up as he leads the teams in rebounding (6.9 per game) and is 3rd provincially in blocked shots (1.5 per game) while scoring 10.1ppg. 4th year 6’4 small forward Raheem Dennis (Mississauga\, ON) is Niagara’s top scorer at 13.9ppg. On December 1st Niagara humbled the Saints by a score of 83-66 in Welland. \nIn another pivotal game the St. Clair Women (11-2\, West T-1st) tip against Niagara (10-3\, 3rd West) at 1:00pm on Sunday. The Saints are 3rd ranked provincially and just ahead of the 4th rated Knights and while St. Clair moved up to #13 nationally this week. In their other meeting this season in early December the Saints topped Niagara 70-57 at their Welland campus gym. \nSt. Clair’s 5th year transfer guard Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford\, ON) is making a case for the best scorer in the OCAA by averaging 21.8ppg which stands 2nd in the province all while setting up her teammates with 5.1 assists per game to go with a team best 7.7 rebounds per contest. \nNiagara will counter with 3rd year 6’0” swing player Janee Harrison (St. Catharines\, ON) who tops the Knights at 13.5ppg while shooting 3rd best in the province from long distance converting over 39%. A recent addition this semester to Niagara in rookie 6’0” swing player Destiny Osadebamwen (Toronto\, ON/Venice\, ITA) has brought some extra concern for St. Clair as she is averaging 10.0ppg and 7.0rpg in her four games. \nPrior to the tip-off of the Men’s game on Sunday the Saints will be recognizing their graduating players including Chad Vincent-Simon\, Hanani Ujullu and Glynn Willis-Paris. At halftime of that game the Cross-Country program will be honouring graduate runner Michael Horrobin.

SUMMARY:Mohawk at St. Clair Basketball January 20 2024
DESCRIPTION:Battle for Top Spot in West as Mohawk Visits St. Clair Basketball\nThe St. Clair College Basketball teams face Mohawk College (Hamilton) in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex which will be a battle for the top position in the OCAA’s West Division. The Women’s game tips at 2:00pm followed by the Men’s game at 4:00pm. \nThe St. Clair Women (8-2\, West 3rd Place) still hold a spot in the CCAA rankings in the 13th position but Mohawk (9-1) is atop the West Division standings and is rated as the 2nd best team in the latest provincial poll. In early December the Saints lost 78-62 to the Mountaineers in Hamilton and will look to even the season series on Saturday. 5th year transfer guard Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford\, ON) continues her torrid pace and is St. Clair’s floor leader while remaining the top point getter in the province and 2nd by average at 20.3ppg. Overeem is also out front of the OCAA in assists at 5.5 per game while gathering 7.9 rebounds per contest. When combined with her younger sister Lauren Overeem (Brantford\, ON) they secure nearly 15 rebounds per game for the Saints. \nMohawk will counter with 2nd year 5’10” guard Angong Jacob (Calgary\, AB) who is scoring 15.2ppg but 4th year 5’11” teammate Tatjana Boskovic (Hamilton\, ON) is averaging 12.7ppg to go with 8.2rpg. 5th year 5’7” point guard Skyla Minaker (Sarnia\, ON) sets the table for Mountaineers with 5.3 assists per game (OCAA 2nd) and adds 12.4ppg. \nThe St. Clair Men (9-2\, West 1st Place) held steady as the 11th ranked team in the country and moved up the 2nd slot in the most recent provincial poll. Mohawk (8-3\, West 2nd Place) is ranked right behind the Saints at #3 in the OCAA and moved up to #14 in the CCAA. \n5th year 6’4” forward Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough\, ON) is now 7th in the provincial scoring race at 19.0ppg and adds 6.3 rebounds per game for St. Clair. 5th year 6’3″ guard Jesiah Deerr (Whitby\, ON) averages 13.4ppg for the Saints with rookie guard Andrew Loyuk (Windsor\, ON/Kennedy) leading the team with 4.5 assists per game (OCAA 4th) to go with 13.2ppg. 3rd year 6’7” transfer forward Mazin Tiea (Windsor\, ON/Kennedy) and 3rd year 6’4″ transfer forward Galdo Tutu (Windsor\, ON) each average 12.0ppg. \nFormer Saint 6’4” forward Jerry Mercury (Scarborough\, ON) is having another impressive season for Mohawk averaging a double-double that includes 26.6ppg and 11.7rpg which stands 2nd overall in the province. But his 24 points in early December against St. Clair in Hamilton still resulted in a 91-83 loss. \nAs a team St. Clair averages the most points at 97.1 per game and holds their opponents to the 6th least amount at 76.4 per contest.
