Ontario Football Conference Championship Set

The London Beefeaters (6 – 2) will travel to Windsor to battle with the AKO Fratmen (7 – 1) for the Ontario Football Conference championship. This will be the third meeting of the year between these squads. The game will be played on Sunday, October 27th, kickoff is at 8:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.

London earned a place in the championship game by defeating the Hamilton Hurricanes on the road by a score of 17 – 8. The Fratmen punched their ticket to the final by handling the GTA Grizzlies at Alumni Field by a score of 51 – 0 .

The Fratmen were defeated by London in the first meeting of the season on, September 7th at TD Waterhouse Stadium by a score of 41 – 34. Three weeks later, on September 28th, at Alumni Field, the Fratmen playing a much more disciplined game, defeated the Beefeaters by a score of 28 – 13.

The Fratmen boast the best offense in the league scoring 375 points during the season. The AKO defense ranked third in the OFC allowing 140 points . The Beefeaters feature the best defense in the OFC, allowing only 87 points during the regular season. London is strong offensively featuring the #2 offense in the league amassing 325 points in 8 games.

AKO Fratmen in Talks With St. Clair College Student Athletic Association

The Windsor AKO Fratmen football franchise could soon belong to St. Clair College’s Student Athletic Association (SAA).

The SAA has expressed an interest in acquiring Windsor’s long-standing football franchise, Windsor AKO Football, and in working with St. Clair College.

The two organizations will enter into a two-month period of due diligence to see if the transition is possible. The team would play in the Canadian Junior Football League and use the soon-to-be completed Sports Park Stadium at the main campus as its home field.

SAA President Kshitij Punj praised the acquisition as one that would make St. Clair College a destination for student athletes, while expanding the school’s athletic footprint. Since 2014, the College has been providing AKO players with a varsity athletic scholarship if they are enrolled at the College.

Ron Seguin, Vice President, International Relations, Campus Development and Student Services, said the acquisition would allow St. Clair to recruit prospective College students interested in playing football. “The Fratmen franchise is historic in this community. We believe this could be an opportunity for our students to keep the franchise going and expand its resources moving forward.”

Jim Pankovich, Commissioner of the Canadian Junior Football League, gave the league’s blessing to a potential franchise transfer. “The Canadian Junior Football League is aware of the transfer and looks forward to working with St. Clair College-SAA to continue delivering this valuable and historic asset to the Windsor community.”

The Fratmen franchise has been owned by Mike Morencie, a former player, head coach and defensive coordinator, since 2014. The team has played in the CJFL’s Ontario Football Conference since the 1940s and has won national titles.

First Place Showdown Between Fratmen and Beefeaters This Weekend

Game #6 vs Beefeaters September 28, 2019.

The Windsor AKO Fratmen (4 – 1) will be in a battle for first place in the OFC this weekend when they host the London Beefeaters (5-1). In week #4 the Beefeaters defeated the Fratmen in London by a score of 41 – 34.

The Beefeaters are #1 in offense scoring 311 points this season. They also boast the #1 defense only allowing 59 points against. London is also riding a 4 game winning streak.

The Fratmen enter the game winning two straight, including a road win last weekend against GTA, 60- 30. The Frat have scored 236 points so far this season and have allowed 101.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at Alumni Field at the University of Windsor.

Fratmen Looking To Get Back In Win Column

Game #4 vs Hurricanes

The Windsor AKO Fratmen (2 – 1) suffered their first defeat of the 2019 OFC season last weekend in London, falling to the Beefeaters, 41 – 34.

The Fratmen will return home this weekend at Alumni Field to take on the defending OFC Champions, Hamilton Hurricanes (3 – 0). This is a re-match of the OFC final of 2018 which saw the Hurricanes defeat the Fratmen, 28 – 23.

This will also be the first of two meetings this season between the Frat and the Hurricanes. They will meet again in Hamilton on Saturday, October 5th, 2019.

So far this season, the Hurricanes have been impressive on both sides of the ball scoring 71 points and only allowing 29. The Fratmen have been equally impressive putting up 130 points and only surrendering 41.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Field at the University of Windsor.

HAMILTON HURRICANES IN TOWN TO BATTLE THE FRAT

On Saturday, August 18^th, a re-match of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) final will highlight week #1 of play . The Hamilton Hurricanes (5-3) will take on the Windsor AKO Fratmen (7-1) at Alumni Field, Kickoff time is set for 8:00 p.m.

The Fratmen defeated the Hurricanes in last years OFC championship game, 34 – 20 at Alumni Field. AKO was also victorious in the one meeting during the regular season against Hamilton, beating the Hurricanes by a score of 32 – 21, in Hamilton.

The Fratmen squad returns 37 players from the championship roster of last season, 15 in which were starters.

Tickets for the game are available at the gate, children 12 and under are free. Seniors and students tickets are $5.00, adults are $8.00. Season ticket passes will also be available at the gate and can be purchased for $20.00, which is a savings of $12.00
