Erie Otters Edge Windsor Spitfires in Shootout

Ivan Lodnia scored once and added the shootout winner as the Erie Otters edged the Windsor Spitfires 5-4 at the Erie Insurance Arena Sunday.

Alex DeBrincat, Warren Foegele and Kyle Maksimovich had the other goals for the Otters (39-10-2-1) while Gabe Vilardi and Jeremy Bracco both scored twice for the Spitfires (33-13-5-3).

Erie netminder Joseph Murdaca made 20 saves to pick up the win in goal while Michael DiPietro made 28 stops at the other end of the ice.

The revolving door that has been the Spitfires lineup all season long continued on Sunday. Centre Logan Brown returned to the Windsor lineup after missing nine games due to a hand injury but he did not finish the game. Overage winger Jeremiah Addison was out serving his one-game suspension for a hit he levied on Saturday night in Hamilton and forward Hayden McCool remained out of the lineup with concussion-like symptoms.

Fortunately for Windsor, star defenceman Mikhail Sergachev did return to the game after leaving with what looked to be a shoulder injury. The first round pick of the Montreal Canadiens chipped in with a pair of assists.

With the single point, the Spitfires pulled to within three points of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for top spot in the Ontario Hockey League’s West Division standings.

The Windsor Spitfires schedule has them return to action Thursday night when they host the Saginaw Spirit at the WFCU Centre.
