DETROIT PISTONS ACQUIRE DUNCAN ROBINSON FROM MIAMI HEAT

The Detroit Pistons have acquired wing Duncan Robinson via sign-and-trade with the Miami Heat. As part of the trade, Detroit sent forward Simone Fontecchio to Miami.

Robinson, 6-7, 215, is a seven-year NBA veteran and has appeared in 423 career games (283 starts), all for Miami, and holds career averages of 11.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while shooting 43.4% from the field and 39.7% from 3-point range.
A native of York, Maine, Robinson has spent seven seasons with the Heat (2018–24), where he became one of the league’s premier long-range shooters. Robinson’s 39.7% career 3-point field goal percentage ranks 18th among all active NBA players. Robinson helped the Heat reach the NBA Playoffs in each of the past six seasons, including trips to the NBA Finals in 2020 and 2023 and the Eastern Conference Finals in 2022.

Undrafted out of college, Robinson signed with the Heat in 2018 after a standout collegiate career that began at Division III Williams College and concluded at the University of Michigan. He became the first Division III transfer in modern NBA history to appear in an NBA game. At Michigan, he helped lead the Wolverines to the Final Four and NCAA Championship game in 2018.

Fontecchio, 6-8, 209, appeared in 91 games (nine starts) for Detroit across two seasons, holding averages of 7.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists while shooting 42.8% from the field and 36.3% from 3-point range in 18.9 minutes per game.

The Detroit Pistons have announced that the club has signed guard Chaz Lanier, who was selected by Detroit with the No. 37 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, to a contract. Per team policy, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Lanier, 6-4, 206, averaged 18.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 43.1% from the field and 39.5% from 3-point range across 38 games for the University of Tennessee last season.
A native of Nashville, Tenn., Lanier led the Southeastern Conference in 3-pointers (123), ranked fourth in 3-point percentage (.395) and was the conference’s third leading scorer with 684 points in his lone season with the Volunteers. Lanier was named 2024-25 SEC Newcomer of the Year and All-SEC First Team. He was selected 2023-24 All-A-Sun First Team for North Florida after averaging 19.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 44% shooting from 3-point range.

Lanier’s father, Thomas Lanier, played college basketball at Lipscomb University where he scored 1,247 points for the Bisons from 1992-96 and his mother Stacey played collegiately at Alcorn State in 1988-89.
