TIGERS TRADE IAN KINSLER FOR WILKEL HERNANDEZ AND TROY MONTGOMERY FROM THE LOS ANGELES ANGELS

Hernandez, 18, is currently ranked as the 24th-best prospect in the Angels system, according to MLB Pipeline. In 12 outings, including seven starts, between Rookie-level AZL Angels and Rookie-level Orem last season, Hernandez posted a 4-1 record with a 2.64 ERA (44.1IP/13ER) and 44 strikeouts. In two professional seasons, Hernandez has compiled a 6-1 record with a 2.28 ERA (59.1IP/15ER) and 58 strikeouts in 17 appearances, including 12 starts. A native of La Carlota, Venezuela, Hernandez was originally signed by the Angels as an international free agent on July 2, 2015.

Montgomery, 23, played in 100 games between Single A Burlington, Single A Inland Empire and Double A Mobile in 2017 and combined to hit .271 (101×373) with 62 runs scored, 13 doubles, eight triples, eight home runs and 38 RBI. Montgomery is currently ranked as the 20th-best prospect in the Angels system, according to MLB Pipeline. In his professional career, Montgomery has posted a .279 (168×603) batting average with 93 runs scored, 23 doubles, 12 triples, 15 home runs and 68 RBI in 164 games. A native of Indianapolis, IN, Montgomery was originally drafted by the Angels in the eighth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Kinsler, 35, played in 139 games during the 2017 season and hit .236 (130×551) with 90 runs scored, 25 doubles, three triples, 22 home runs and 52 RBI. In four seasons with Detroit, Kinsler batted .275 (681×2477) with 401 runs scored, 129 doubles, 18 triples, 78 home runs and 300 RBI.

With the completion of the trade, the Tigers 40-man roster is now at 38.
