St. Clair Saints Golf Team Adds Four Recruits
The St. Clair College Department of Athletics and the varsity golf program is pleased to announce the commitment of four golfers for the 2023-24 school year.
The Saints have signed Liam Crummy, Ethan Slaats, Spencer Higginbottom and Justine Gorham.
Crummy, a native of Oil Springs, is a graduate of LCCVI. Liam is registered for the three year Civil Engineering Technology diploma program. Crummy has a significant amount of experience playing in many Golf Ontario and Golf Canada events. This past summer he placed 1st in the Sarnia Golf Club Men’s Invitational and won the Junior Club Championship the past two years. Crummy can’t want to join the St. Clair program. “St. Clair is the perfect fit for me both academically and for golf. They have a great golf schedule and the it is obvious the school takes athletics very serious.”
Slaats is from West Lorne and attended St. Joseph’s in St. Thomas. Ethan is enrolled in the three year Sport and Recreation Management Program at St. Clair. He recently qualified for the OFSAA Championship where he placed 23rd and also has taken part in several Golf Ontario and Golf Canada tournaments. Ethan is excited to become a Saint. “I loved the campus and the coaching staff and am looking forward to helping build the golf program while taking a great academic program.”
Gorham is from Amherstburg and is graduating from L’Essor. Justine will be taking the four year Honours Bachelor of Applied Arts in Social Justice and Legal Studies. Gorham was a member of the Jamieson Tour this past summer where she had several top results. She also took part in the OFSAA Championship this past spring finishing tied for 26th in the province. Justine is thrilled to becoming a part of the successful women’s program. “I am so excited to be becoming a part of such a successful women’s golf team. I love the fact that I can earn a degree and play high level varsity golf and stay close to home and earn a scholarship.”
Higginbottom is from Lakeshore and graduated from Tecumseh Vista Academy. Spencer is a transfer from Glendale Community College in Arizona where he played in 2021-22. He is currently enrolled in the three year Business Administration Finance program. Higginbottom has an extensive amount of competitive experience including three years on the Jamieson Tour where he finished in 5th place overall in 2021. Spencer is happy to be back home and becoming a Saint. “Things didn’t work out for me in the states and I am so glad to be back home playing golf and going to such an amazing school. St. Clair runs their athletic department better than many American schools from what I have seen.”
The St. Clair women’s team is coming off an OCAA silver medal finish while the men finished in 6th place in Ontario in 2022.
Head Coach Kevin Corriveau is excited to add to these four golfers to his roster. “I am very excited about the immediate and long term future of both our Men’s and Women’s golf teams. With the recent additions, I believe our new players will make an immediate impact on our competitiveness in the OCAA and CCAA for the 2023 season and beyond.”
