St. Clair College Women Saints Face Humber in Quarterfinal for the Upcoming OCAA Championship
The Saints will be facing the Humber Hawks on Thursday at 9 am in Sudbury. The Championship is being hosted by Cambrian College.
St. Clair will have their hands full against the top ranked Hawks. Humber is currently ranked 2nd in the OCAA and 6th in Canada. Humber finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record in first place in the OCAA Central Division. Humber scored 41 goals and allowed 8. The Saints ended their regular season with a record of 7-2-1 in 2nd place in the OCAA West Division. St. Clair scored a division high 36 goals and allowed 8. The Saints last faced the Hawks at last year’s OCAA Championship and lost 1-0 in a tight quarterfinal match.
The St. Clair women are on a roll, winners of four straight, including a 6-1 crossover play-off win this past weekend against St. Lawrence – Kingston. The Saints split their season series with the West Division champions from Fanshawe. This is the third consecutive year that the Saints have qualified for the OCAA Championship.
St. Clair is led offensively by Jaclyn French (Windsor) and her team-leading mark of 9 goals in 10 games. Cassie Nicholas (Windsor) and Cassie Medeiros (London) check in with 6 goals each. Keeper Tory Brown was solid in net all year for the Saints. The St. Clair defense is led by Charesse-Thomas Tate (Brampton). The Saints are a disciplined squad, amassing only 3 yellow cards and no dismissals on the year.
If the Saints win they will advance to the championship semi-final Friday at 3 pm. Should they lose they will play in the Consolation bracket on Friday at 9 am.
