St. Clair College Women’s Volleyball

The St. Clair College women’s volleyball team improved their OCAA record to 11-4 on the season with two big wins at home on the weekend.

On Friday night, the Saints took on their nemesis, the Niagara Knights, and came away with a huge 3-1 win.  Game scores for St. Clair were 25-21, 15-25, 25-21 and 25-23.   Te-Anna Stephenson (Whitby) led the way offensively with 13 kills, 1 stuff block and 9 digs.  Andie Suthers (Tecumseh) also had a solid match with 6 kills on 14 attempts along with 2 stuff blocks and 4 digs. The St. Clair women are currently ranked 3rd  in Ontario and 15th in Canada. The loss dropped ’s Niagara’s record to 8-6. The Knights were ranked 6th in the OCAA heading into the match.

On Saturday, the Saints took on the Redeemer University Royals and came away with a solid 3-0 win.  Game scores for St. Clair were 25-22, 25-21, and 25-19.   Kaila Crough (Tecumseh) led the way offensively with 11 kills, 1 stuff block and 5 digs.  The loss dropped Redeemer’s record to  3-11 on the season.

The women are next in action on Thursday, February 1 when they host the top ranked Fanshawe Falcons at the Sportsplex at 6 pm

St. Clair College Men’s Volleyball

The St. Clair College men’s volleyball team suffered two heartbreaking loses at home on the weekend losing both matches in five sets.

On Friday night, the Saints took on the Niagara Knights and lost 3-2.  Game scores for Niagara we 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22 and 15-5.  Manik Jandoria (Windsor) led the way offensively for St. Clair with 17 kills, 2 stuff blocks and 9 digs. Rrezart Sadiku (Toronto) also had a big match with16 kills, 2 stuff blocks and 14 digs. Ubert Batista (Panama) had a solid match as well with 7 kills, 5 stuff blocks, 1 service ace and 3 digs. The win improved Niagara’s record to 7-7 on the year. The Knights were ranked 7th in the OCAA heading into the match.

On Saturday, the Saints took on the Redeemer University Royals and once again suffered a back and forth 3-2 loss.  Game scores for Redeemer were 25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 25-27 and 15-11 . Jared Niziolek (Windsor) led the way offensively with 15 kills, 1 stuff block, 1 service ace and 2 digs.  Rrezart Sadiku (Toronto) had a strong match with 15 kills, 1 stuff block and 10 digs. Manik Jandoria (Windsor) chipped in with 16 kills, 1 stuff bock and 7 digs. The win improved Redeemer’s record to 11-3 on the season. The Royals are ranked 3rd in Ontario and 9th in Canada. The two tough losses dropped St. Clair’s season record to 8-7. The Saints are currently ranked 6th in the OCAA.

The standings in the OCAA West Division are very tight with only a few matches remaining.  The top 7 teams will make the playoffs.

The men are next in action on Thursday, February 1 when they host the top ranked Fanshawe Falcons at the Sportsplex at 8 pm.
