St. Clair Women’s Indoor Soccer Finish 4th at OCAA Championship
The St. Clair College women’s indoor soccer team ended up finishing 4th in Ontario after a couple of tough loses on Friday at the OCAA Championship. The Championships were hosted at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Toronto by Humber College.
In their first match of the day, the Saints lost a heartbreaker in the OCAA Championship Semi-Final to Fanshawe. The score was 0-0 after regulation and still 0-0 after extra time. The Saints controlled the possession for most of the game but could not get one past the Falcon keeper. St. Clair keeper Natalie Turner had a great game as well turning away a couple of great chances. Fanshawe ending up winning the match in Penalty Kicks. The kicks were tied 2-2 after 5 shooters so had to go to sudden death. Unfortunately Fanshawe scored on their 6th chance and the Saints missed. St. Clair hit a host and cross bar hard during the kicks.
In the Bronze Medal game the Saints faced Mohawk who they had beat the day before 3-2 in round robin play. Once again the Saints controlled possession for most of the match but could not get one past the Mohawk keeper. Mohawk got on the board midway through the second half but St. Clair could not get the equalizer and ended up losing 1-0.
The Saints had a great season winning regionals and posting an overall record at Regionals and Provincials of 7-2. Head Coach Kris Geier was very proud of how the women played all season. “We played hard all season long and probably deserved a better fate today. However, that is sports sometimes but we are extremely proud of our women and the season they had and how the players represented the college on and off the field”
