St. Clair Golf Teams off to Slow Start

The St. Clair College men’s and women’s golf teams started their season this past Saturday taking part in the Fanshawe College Invitational at Firerock Golf Club just outside of London.

The men’s team got off to tough start finishing in 8th place with a team score of 336. For the men, five golfers play with the best four scores counting. Andrew Pillon (St. Joachim; Belle River District) led the way shooting a 78 in some tough windy conditions which was good enough for a tie for 12th place. The winning individual score for the men was 73. Other St. Clair team members and scores were Derick Hare (Windsor; FJ Brennan) 85, Simon Desmarais (Windsor; FJ Brennan) 86, Brett Harrison (Essex; Essex District) 87, and Josh Chilcoat (LaSalle; Sandwich) 88.

The women’s team finished the event in 4th place with a team score of 194. For the women, three golfers can play with the best two scores counting. Shannon Coffey (Windsor; FJ Brennan) had a solid day shooting an 86 finishing in 6th place just three strokes out of third place. Fellow rookie Megan Schaafsma (Essex; Essex District) was the other female Saint with a score of 108

The Saints are next in action at the Niagara College Invitational on Monday, September 22 at the Grand Niagara Golf Club. The OCAA Championship is being hosted by St. Lawrence College in Kingston at Cataraqui Golf & Country Club from September 29-October 2.
