HOCKEY CANADA 2019 SPENGLER CUP ROSTER
Twenty-two players will wear the Maple Leaf with Canada’s National Men’s Team at the 2019 Spengler Cup, Dec. 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland.
Canada will look to win the Spengler Cup, the oldest club tournament in the world, after a runner-up finish in 2018, and will attempt to secure its 16th championship with five players who were members of the 2018 squad – Chris DiDomenico (Woodbridge, Ont./SCL Tigers, NLA), Cory Emmerton (St. Thomas, Ont./Lausanne HC, NLA), Zach Fucale (Laval, Que./Orlando, ECHL), Maxim Noreau (Montreal/ZSC Lions, NLA) and Daniel Winnik (Toronto/Genève-Servette HC, NLA).
Player selections were made by general manager Sean Burke (Windsor, Ont./Montreal, NHL), management group member Shane Doan (Halkirk, Alta.) and director of hockey operations and assistant coach Misha Donskov (London, Ont./Vegas, NHL), with input from head coach Craig MacTavish (London, Ont.) and assistant coach Paul Coffey (Weston, Ont.).
“We are excited about this group; we believe we have assembled a team that combines experience from previous Spengler Cups with a group of new faces who will contribute to our success in Switzerland,” said Burke. “The Spengler Cup is always an exciting tournament with a rich history, and the opportunity to participate is a highlight of the season for our staff and players. We look forward to competing for another championship with this group.”
Since first taking part in 1984, Canada has won the Spengler Cup 15 times (1984, 1986, 1987, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017). It has also been the runner-up 10 times (1985, 1988, 1990, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2018).
Canada will open the 2019 Spengler Cup against HC Ocelari Trinec on Dec. 26 at 2:15 p.m. ET/11:15 a.m. PT before the 11-game schedule wraps up with the championship game on Dec. 31 at 6:10 a.m. ET/3:10 a.m. PT. TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcast partners, will broadcast all 11 games.
