St. Clair Women’s Indoor Soccer Team Win Redeemer University Tournament
Ancaster (ON) The St. Clair women’s varsity indoor soccer team travelled to Ancaster to take part in the Redeemer University Tournament on Thursday. The Saints came home tournament champions going 4-0 on the day.
In their first match St. Clair defeated Sheridan College by a score of 2-1. Ally Schooley (Tecumseh; Tecumseh Vista) and Alayna Banks (Belle River; St. Anne’s) scored for the Saints.
The Saints defeated Redeemer University 8-1 in their second game. Cassie Nicholas (Windsor; Holy Names) led the way for St. Clair with 3 goals, followed by Malary Cole (Thunder Bay; St. Ignatius) and Jaclyn French (Windsor; Brennan) with 2 goals each and Schooley with 1.
In their third match the Saints defeated Cambrian College 3-0. French scored twice and Cole added a single.
The Saints faced Lakehead Orillia in their final game and came away with a 3-0 win to win the tournament. Nicholas scored all 3 goals for St. Clair.
Natalie Turner (Windsor; Holy Names) was in goal for all four games and was solid throughout the day. Defender Ravneet Rana (Windsor; Riverside) had an outstanding tournament as well leading the Saints defense.
It was the first OCAA action for the indoor team since the OCAA Championships in March 2020. St. Clair was preparing to play in the Championship semi-final on the second day but the event was cancelled last minute the morning of that match due COVID 19 concerns.
The St. Clair women are next in action on Wednesday March 9 when they will head back to Redeemer to take part in the OCAA Regionals in hopes of qualifying for the OCAA Championships on March 30 & 31.
