The Detroit Red Wings claimed victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Little Caesars Arena on November 11, 2023 in Detroit. The win was a much-needed boost for the Red Wings, who had struggled in their previous eight games, with only two wins, four losses, and two ties.
On the other hand, the Blue Jackets’ loss added to their recent struggles, having lost eight of their last nine games. Despite a good fight, they couldn’t manage to secure the much-needed points.
The Red Wings got off to a strong start, with Lucas Raymond scoring the first goal at 3:41. Raymond started behind the net and reversed direction before stopping to slip the puck in at the post. This was followed by Robby Fabbri scoring the second goal at 4:26, a rebound from the edge of the crease.
The Blue Jackets managed to cut the lead to 2-1 at 5:33 with Alexandre Texier outsmarting the Red Wings’ goalie on a breakaway. However, the Blue Jackets’ struggle with face-offs in the first period was evident, with a face-off win rate of only 8.33%.
Adam Fantilli managed to tie the game 2-2 at 18:14, batting in the puck from a bounce off the boards.
Sean Kuraly tipped the scales in favor of the Blue Jackets at 5:41, with a goal that gave them a 3-2 lead. However, the Red Wings weren’t far behind, with Alex DeBrincat tying the game at 3-3 with a one-timer at 16:01.

The Red Wings extended their lead with Jake Walman scoring at 2:33, making it 5-3. Despite this, Patrik Laine of the Blue Jackets scored his 200th NHL goal at 11:30, reducing the gap to 5-4.
Despite a close call in the final minutes, with Laine’s shot hitting the shaft of the Red Wings’ goalie’s stick, the Red Wings held on to their lead.
Daniel Sprong was the star of the game, scoring the crucial go-ahead goal. Additionally, Jeff Petry and Christian Fischer each had two assists, and Ville Husso made 18 saves.
The Red Wings dominated the face-offs, winning 63% of them. Alex DeBrincat of the Red Wings became the fourth player in the team’s history to score his first 10 goals with the team in 15 or fewer games.
The Red Wings will next be participating in the 2023 NHL Global Series in Sweden, where they will play two games at Avicii Arena in Stockholm from November 16-19, along with the Minnesota Wild, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Ottawa Senators.
