The clash between the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning on January 21, 2024, had quite a few nail-biting moments. With Detroit emerging as the victor.

Detroit’s victory was largely attributed to Alex Lyon, who blocked an impressive 27 shots. Lyon’s commendable performance was instrumental in keeping the Tampa Bay Lightning at bay.

Goals were scored by Lucas Raymond and Daniel Sprong on Detroit’s side (24-17-5), which has now claimed victories in seven out of their last nine matches.

On the other hand, Victor Hedman scored the lone goal for Tampa Bay (24-18-5), a team that had previously enjoyed a five-game winning streak. Goalkeeper Andrei Vasilevskiy also contributed significantly with 33 saves.

Tampa Bay took an early lead at 8:45 of the first quarter when Hedman successfully completed a pass-play with Nikita Kucherov, scoring his ninth goal of the season.

Raymond then tied the game 1-1 with his 13th goal at 18:29. His wrist shot got past Vasilevskiy who inadvertently knocked it across the line in an attempt to deflect it.

Subsequently, Sprong placed the Red Wings in the lead with a 2-1 score at 8:58 of the second period, outsmarting Vasilevskiy in a breakaway after a turnover forced by J.T. Compher.

Interestingly, this game concluded a unique sweep for the city of Detroit against Tampa. Earlier that day, the Lions had defeated the Buccaneers 31-23 in an NFL playoff game.
