Windsor Spitfires Carson Woodall Launches “Woody’s Hoodies” Fundraiser to Support Cancer Research

Recently, during an exciting mid-game interview, rookie defenseman Carson Woodall of the Windsor Spitfires announced the launch of “Woody’s Hoodies,” a heartfelt initiative aimed at supporting local cancer research.

Woodall, a 17-year-old hockey player hailing from Belle River, Ontario, has always believed in the power of unity and camaraderie, both on and off the ice. In 2020, while playing for the Toronto Marlboros, Woodall and his father, Scott, introduced a unique concept – the “Woody’s Hoodie” – designed to foster connection and solidarity among teammates during challenging times of isolation brought about by the pandemic. The hoodies quickly became a symbol of unity within the locker room, spreading positivity and strengthening bonds among players.

Inspired by the strength and resilience of his grandmothers, one of whom lost her battle to breast cancer in 2023 while the other continues to fight ovarian cancer, Woodall has decided to expand the reach of Woody’s Hoodies beyond the hockey community to support a cause close to his heart – cancer research.

Today, in partnership with the Windsor Spitfires, and Play for a Cure, Woody’s Hoodies are now available for purchase by the public online at woodieshoodies.ca. A significant portion of the proceeds, 24%, will be dedicated to supporting local cancer research efforts in the Windsor Essex region through a partnership with Play For A Cure. (playforacure.ca)

Carson Woodall expressed his motivation behind the initiative, stating, “As a hockey player, I understand the demands of a challenging schedule & grueling routine, but it pales in comparison to the daily battles fought by cancer patients. I am honored to join forces with the Windsor Spitfires, Play For A Cure, and our amazing fans to make a meaningful impact in the fight against this devastating disease.”

Each Woody’s Hoodie features a custom ribbon design created by Woodall himself, combining symbols representing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, with the initials of his beloved grandmothers. The ribbon is prominently displayed on the right sleeve, symbolizing unity and support during handshake lineups at hockey games. Additionally, a range of merchandise including t-shirts and hats will be available for purchase, with the option to customize select items with team names and numbers.

Woody’s Hoodies will officially go on sale starting March 17th, 2024, and will also be available for purchase in person at the Play for a Cure Pro Am All-Star game on Friday, April 19th.

Join Carson Woodall and the Windsor Spitfires in supporting cancer research through Woody’s Hoodies – together, we can make a difference.
