Saints Soccer Earn Playoff Spots
St. Clair Women’s Soccer Lock Up Playoff Home Game
The St. Clair College women’s soccer team continued their strong OCAA regular season on Wednesday night (Oct. 9, 2024) at Acumen Stadium with a convincing 15-0 win over the Lambton Lions (Sarnia).
Victoria Walsh (Georgetown; Christ the King) led the way with 6 goals and an assist while Alexa Mognon had 3 goals and an assist. Sierra Lapos (Tilbury; Ursuline), Alessia Olivito (Windsor; Holy Names) and Annah Zacerkowny (LaSalle; Sandwich) each had 2 goals to round out the scoring. Keepers Scotlyn Fick (Belle River; Belle River District) and Sofia Ovcharenko (Edmonton; Austin O’Brien) were solid in goal earning the clean sheet.
With the win, the Saints record improved to 7 wins and 2 losses on the season. St. Clair has locked up home field for the first round of the playoffs and will host a match on Wednesday, October 16 at 6 pm. The Saints could still finish anywhere from first to third in the West Division.
St. Clair is currently ranked 4th in Ontario and 12th in Canada.
St. Clair is next in action at Acumen Stadium on Saturday, October 12 when then host their final regular season game at 1 pm against the Conestoga Condors. The Saints will be honouring their graduating seniors prior to the match.
St. Clair Men’s Soccer Earn Playoff Spot
The St. Clair College men’s soccer team continued their OCAA regular season on Wednesday night at Acumen Stadium with a solid 4-2 win over the Lambton Lions (Sarnia).
The Saints went up 1-0 on a nice goal by Matteo Ventura (LaSalle; Villanova) assisted by Nico Gualtieri (Kingsville; Cardinal Carter) in the 15th minute. Lambton tied it up 1-1 on a penalty kick in the 21st minute. Ventura restored the lead in the 36th minute. Ventura got his hat trick tally in the 42nd minute assisted by Thomas Saba (Leamington; Cardinal Carter). Ventura scored his 4th of the match on a nice strike in the 82nd minute assisted by Gualtieri to make it 4-1 before the Lions scored late in the 85th minute to wrap up the scoring.
The Saints dominated time of possession for most of the match and had 27 shot attempts compared to 8 for Lambton.
With the win, the Saints record improved to 2 wins, 6 losses and a tie on the season. St. Clair has locked up a playoff spot and will finish sixth or seventh in the tough West Division with one game to play.
St. Clair is next in action at Acumen Stadium on Saturday, October 12 when then host their final regular season game at 3 pm against the Conestoga Condors. The Saints will be honouring their graduating seniors prior to the match.
