St. Clair Women’s Volleyball Place Second at Adidas Cup
The St. Clair College women’s volleyball team started off their second semester on a high note placing second at the Durham College Adidas Cup over the weekend. The invitational tournament featured some of the top women’s volleyball teams in Ontario and Quebec.
The Saints started off the tournament on Friday afternoon dropping a 3-0 decision to the Seneca Sting. Set scores for Seneca were 30-28, 25-22 and 25-19.
St. Clair bounced back with a well played 3-1 win over Trent University on Friday night. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-20; 17-25, 25-22 and 26-24.
On Saturday, the Saints defeated André-Laurendeau 3-0 to end round robin play with a 2-1 record. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19.
St. Clair then took on the Durham Lords in the semi-final on Saturday afternoon and defeated the host college 3-0. Set scores for the Saints were 25-23, 25-21, and 25-23.
The win over Durham set up a rematch with Seneca on Sunday afternoon to determine the tournament champion. In a great back and forth match the Saints came up just short falling 3-2 to the Sting. Set scores for the Seneca were 25-20, 20-25, 26-24, 29-31 and 15-11.
Arianna Karl and Haleigh Kearns were named tournament All Stars.
The Saints are next in action on Saturday, January 11 when they travel to Toronto to begin their second semester OCAA regular season schedule against the top ranked Humber Hawks.
The St. Clair women are currently ranked 2nd in Ontario and 11th in Canada.
