It took a final second 3-pointer to give Humber College (Etobicoke, ON) the CCAA National Title Saturday night who defeated Holland College (Charlottetown, PEI) 50-49 in the Championship Game at the St. Clair College SportsPlex in Windsor.

Humber’s Ruth Holland (Peterborough, ON) was kicked out a pass at the top circle and nailed a triple leaving only 0:00.5 on the clock.  Holland College’s desperation pass down the court was knocked away to give Ontario its first ever CCAA National Championship and tipped off quite a celebration for the Humber faithful. Holland College had control of the low scoring game and held a slim 22-20 lead at halftime.

They increased that lead in the third quarter and were up 49-42 with just a few minutes to play.  But Humber closed the gap after some untimely Holland miscues setting up the final dramatics.

Ruth Holland only scored 8 points but with that final shot earned her Player of the Game honours for Humber.  Candace Smith (New Minas, NS) was Holland’s Player of the Game and scored 14 points.
