| Windsor Spitfires | 0 | 1 | 3 | 4 |
The first period of the game came off as rather subdued, with both teams hardly getting any chances to score. However, Mason Vaccari, the Frontenacs’ goaltender, emerged as an early standout by effectively thwarting a breakaway chance by Oliver Peer from the Spitfires. A noteworthy highlight was a penalty shot by Ethan Miedema, which unfortunately didn’t result in a score due to the brilliant defense by the Spitfires’ goalie, Joey Costanzo.
Post a scoreless first period, the Frontenacs decided to switch gears. Barely a minute into the second period, Linus Hemstrom scored the first goal of the match, taking the Frontenacs to a 1-0 lead. The Spitfires quickly retaliated with a breakaway goal from Liam Greentree, tying the score. However, the Frontenacs didn’t lose momentum. Midway through the second period, Gage Heyes and Chris Thibodeau scored back-to-back goals, giving the Frontenacs a comfortable 3-1 lead.
The third period commenced with a powerplay in favour of the Windsor Spitfires. However, the Frontenacs held their ground and successfully killed their third penalty of the night. This victory boosted their morale and set the tone for the rest of the third period. Thibodeau managed to score his second goal of the game, further strengthening the Frontenacs’ lead. The final penalty kill saw Paul Ludwinski scoring shorthanded, taking the score to 6-4 in favour of the Frontenacs.
Despite the Spitfires’ late resurgence, it was not enough to turn the tide of the game, and the Frontenacs secured their first win of the three in three weekend.
The Spitfires, despite enduring their fourth loss, remain hopeful. The players were frustrated but determined to exit the slump. With just a single win in six games, the team is keen to turn things around.
