2017 South Coast Adventure Race Contest

Participants in the 2017 South Coast Adventure Race (SCAR) have a chance to learn from, and race with, one of the best in the sport with the introduction of a unique Pro-Am contest.  “Race with Brad Jennings” is a free contest open to all rookie adventure racers who register in the solo or team of two categories. On June 2, a draw will be held to determine who gets to race with the SCAR 2015 and 2016 champion.

2017 South Coast Adventure Race Contest
Brad Jennings conquers SCAR 2015 with a first place portage finish at Hillman Marsh Conservation Area.

Jennings, a long-time adventure athlete and Get Out There magazine race correspondent, will provide all contest entrants weekly training tips and answer questions on how to be a successful adventure athlete. He’ll also join them as they tackle the 2017 edition of the South Coast Adventure Race, happening on Saturday, June 17.

“Brad is a phenomenal ambassador for the sport and will be a great asset to the lucky individual or team he races with,” explained SCAR Race Director Danielle Stuebing.  “The team dynamic is an essential element to successful adventure racing, and we hope this contest will spark a lot of interest.”  Stuebing goes on to note that, this year in particular, the course has been designed with new adventure racers in mind.

Jennings was crowned overall champion at the past two SCAR events, where he competed as a solo participant. This year, he looks forward to sharing his love of adventure racing with newcomers to the sport.

“Adventure racing is such a unique sport which tests physical and mental limits against the backdrop of wild and stunning regions,” Jennings explains. “With paddling, biking, trekking and orienteering, the race can seem daunting at first, yet you don’t need to be an elite athlete to participate. You’ll have fun on course, no matter the outcome. I’m thrilled to help new racers discover a new love of region and the sport!”

The contest is open to all rookie adventure racers who register for the SCAR.  New participants will be offered the chance to enter during the registration process.

SCAR participants can also take advantage of a number of upcoming workshops hosted by the event sponsors: Windsor Adventure Inc., and Infinity Cycles. Details on upcoming workshops can be found online.

The South Coast Adventure Race will take place on June 17, beginning and ending in Essex, Ontario. The SCAR is a beginner to intermediate-level adventure race, designed to be completed in under 8 hours. For more information about the race, or to register online.
