22nd Annual Hockey for Hospice Tournament Biggest to Date
It just keeps growing! Once again, the Hockey for Hospice tournament has broken its own record for participation with 145 teams playing in this year’s edition.
Originally conceived as a skate-a-thon by tournament founder, Tim Beaulieu, Hockey for Hospice has grown each year from its humble beginnings. This year’s edition– being played, as always, from Dec. 27-29– will include a schedule of 318 games being played at five different arenas over three days. Divisions include Tyke, Novice, Atom, PeeWee, Bantam, Atom Girls, PeeWee Girls and Bantam Girls and new this year an initiation program (IP) six years old and under.
“I just can’t believe how this tournament keeps growing. Not only do the kids have fun, raise pledges and learn about The Hospice, they’re teaching their family, friends and neighbours about the programs and services in our community. They are wonderful ambassadors for us.” – Carol Derbyshire, executive director of The Hospice.
Teams from across Windsor and Essex County, as well as teams from Tilbury and Mooretown, will see on-ice action for a good cause. All players participating in the tournament raise pledges and awareness for The Hospice.
The Hockey for Hospice tournament will be played at the Libro Centre in Amherstburg, Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore, Vollmer Recreational Complex in LaSalle, Tecumseh Arena and Central Park Athletics. Tournament games begin Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 8 a.m.
