Banner Year Celebrated with 53rd Annual St. Clair Athletic Awards Banquet

After a 2-year hiatus the Saints held their 53rd Annual Athletic Awards Banquet at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts campus in downtown Windsor on Wednesday, May 11th.  St. Clair had plenty to celebrate with one of the most successful seasons in program history that included ten provincial medals and three national podium finishes.

This past year St. Clair played host to four provincial championship events with the OCAA Men’s Soccer and Women’s Basketball Final Four both being held on campus as well as the OCAA Women’s Softball Championship tournament and the Ontario Football Conference Championship game.  St. Clair also garnered national attention when the Saints hosted the CCAA Golf Championship at Ambassador Golf Club.

The Saints Men’s Baseball team captured their 6th Gold Medal in eight OCAA years at the provincial tournament in Oshawa after a 12-2 pennant winning regular season.  Women’s Softball won a pair of Silver Medals including their 4th in the last five OCAA seasons and travelled to Kelowna, BC for another 2nd place finish at the CCSA National Championship.  Men’s Golf added another Division II Championship with the Women’s Golf team winning an OCAA Silver Medal.

Cross Country produced three silver medals for St. Clair at the OCAA Championships with both Men’s and Women’s teams garnering neckwear along with an individual 2nd place performance from Tyler Jones.  At the National Championships in Calgary, AB Jacob Fitzpatrick and Rick Nepomuceno joined Jones on the All-Canadian team which was his 4th selection in as many seasons.

The Basketball programs each went to the title game and settled for OCAA Provincial Silver with the Men’s team concluding a miracle run that resulted in their first ever CCAA National Medal with another Silver.  David Gomez Jr. finished his stellar Saints career and became the program’s third Men’s Basketball All-Canadian recipient for St. Clair.  Women’s Indoor Soccer concluded a whirlwind season with an OCAA Bronze Medal that produced 13 medals total which equals a program record that was set in 1979-80.

At Wednesday’s Athletic Banquet St. Clair had a chance to reflect on their team and individual achievements while naming their Major Award winners.  As a bonus the Major Awards portion of the evening was live-streamed by WE-Digital Productions at the following link.
