TECUMSEH SET TO WELCOME MEMORIAL CUP
The Town of Tecumseh will welcome the Memorial Cup at Tecumseh Arena (12021 McNorton Street) Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The visit is part of the Community Tour during the Memorial Cup tournament at Windsor’s WFCU Centre.
“Not only are we excited to have the Memorial Cup tournament playing right next door,” says Mayor Gary McNamara. “We are even more excited to have the cup making the rounds within area
municipalities and coming here to Tecumseh. I encourage our residents to come out and be a part of the action.”
As part of the Tecumseh tour, two local PeeWee Major Hockey teams, the Tecumseh Eagles and the Belle River Jr. Canadiens, will play an exhibition game at Tecumseh Arena from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The winner will have the cup visit their dressing room as “champions” of the game. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 261 will supply a Colour Party and drop the puck for the game.
Admission to the event is free and seating/standing room is limited. Attendees can see the cup in the main lobby of the arena and take photos. Once the celebration is over, the cup will return to the WFCU for the afternoon game between the OHL and WHL. Tecumseh will be the featured municipality at the Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island booth at that game. A raffle for a Tecumseh prize pack will be offered as well as information on upcoming events in Town and other details on regional tourism.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Memorial Cup fans and visitors to Windsor-Essex to see what Tecumseh has to offer,” says Lesley Racicot, Manager Strategic Initiatives. “We are pleased to be
partnering with Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island for the day to share details on local businesses, events and activities. Our prize pack will give the winner a chance to sample local flavours of Tecumseh.”
