Windsor Spitfires Re-Sign Jerrod Smith, Add Tyler Roeszler as Skills Coach

General Manager Warren Rychel bolstered his staff today with a pair of signings. Assistant Coach Jerrod Smith has inked a new two-year deal. Smith, 33, will enter his seventh season and fifth behind the bench. The Burlington, Ontario native says the chance to work under new head coach Trevor Letowski was too good to pass up.

“I’m excited to stay in Windsor and to continue to be part of a great organization. Anytime you get to work with a guy like Trevor Letowski, it’s something I couldn’t turn down. I’m looking forward to working with him, (Player Development and Skills Coach) Tyler (Roeszler) and (Director of Analytics) Evan (Mathias). It’s a comfortable working environment. We’re looking to have fun and to develop our young core of players.” – Assistant Coach Jerrod Smith

Tyler Roeszler has been hired as Player Development and Skills Coach.

The 28-year-old Chatham native was a 15th round pick of the Spitfires back in 2004. He played for the hometown Maroons from 2005 to 2007 before spending four years at Cornell University.
After a brief pro career overseas, Roeszler spent three years as a coach with the Maroons before parts of two seasons behind the bench at the University of Guelph.

“I’m really excited to join this staff and to work with Trevor and Jerrod. Being a local guy, this is a special opportunity.” – Tyler Roeszler

In his new role, Roeszler will assist the coaching staff by providing structure around skill and individual player development.
