Aaron Luchuk OHL Player of the Week
Aaron Luchuk is the ‘On The Run’ Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ended Sunday, October 29th.
Luchuk, 20, leads the OHL in goals (15) and is tied for tops in points (Kyrou, 28).
After being held off the scoresheet in the club’s 4-0 loss in North Bay on Thursday night, Luchuk went off on a line with Logan Brown and Luke Boka. The Kingston native bagged his second career hat-trick and added two assists in our 7-2 win over the Wolves in Sudbury on Friday, before following up with a goal and three assists in a 5-4 win in Owen Sound on Sunday.
Luchuk, who has nine multi-point games already and at least a point in 13 of 15 games, says his early season success is the result of a combination of factors.
“I’ve been known to be able to score goals in this league,” he began. “I’ve also been the beneficiary of playing with linemates that can make plays. Be it Bokes (Luke Boka) or (Mathew) MacDougall, or more recently with Brownie (Logan Brown) in the mix. Part of it is great team play. I’m playing big minutes this season as well, and I’ve embraced that. Loots (head coach Trevor Letowski) trusts me playing in all situations. So I’ve capitalized on that as well.”
It’s the second time this season a Spitfire has earned the honour. Mikey DiPietro was named Player of the Week back on September 25th.
Luchuk and the rest of the Spitfires are back on the ice Tuesday and Wednesday in preparation for a visit from the Hamilton Bulldogs Thursday night at The WFCU Centre.
