TIGERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH FIRST OVERALL PICK CASEY MIZE
The Detroit Tigers have agreed to terms with righthanded pitcher Casey Mize from Auburn University, the first overall selection in the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
In 17 starts for Auburn this year, Mize was 10-6 with a 3.30 ERA (114.2IP/42ER). Mize was named a 2018 first-team All-American by Baseball America and earned first-team All-SEC honors. He joins Gregg Olson as the second two-time All-American in Auburn history.
Over three seasons for the Auburn Tigers (2016-18), Mize posted a 20-13 career record with a 2.96 ERA (267.1IP/88ER), 324 strikeouts, and only 43 walks in 46 appearances (36 starts). In his career at Auburn, Mize threw five complete games and one shutout for the Tigers.
