Windsor Essex Law Enforcement Torch Run 2019

On Tuesday, May 28, 2019 members of the Windsor and Essex County law enforcement community will be raising awareness for Special Olympics with the Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.  A relay-style run will traverse through the communities of Windsor and Essex County where runners will complete at 1-2 km leg in eight different communities (route and timings below).

The Windsor Police Service first participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run in 1986 and has continued the annual spring tradition every year since. The local run was renamed in memory of Senior Constable Troy Klyn in 2009. Senior Constable Klyn was a Windsor Police officer who was an avid runner and the coordinator of the Torch Run for a number of years. He passed away suddenly in 2006.

The Windsor leg will begin at 12:05 pm on Pitt Street East (just east of Goyeau Street between the Windsor Justice Facility and Caesars Windsor). Following the run participants will be treated to a BBQ and post run refreshments.

Special Olympics is a year-round international sports training and athletic competition program for more than one million children and adults with an intellectual disability. The program provides opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with family, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Law Enforcement agencies around the world raise funds and build awareness for the Special Olympics movement worldwide. Law enforcement officers from every province, every state and more than 30 countries act as “Guardians of the Flame” of Hope in honour of Special Olympics athletes.
