St. Clair Golf Teams Off to Slow Start at 2021 OCAA Championship
Second year player Shannon Coffey (Windsor; FJ Brennan) had a decent start to the Championship shooting an 86 on the very difficult par 72 course. She is currently in 5th place alone but only four strokes back of a bronze medal. The Saints as a team are tied for 2nd with a day one score of 177. 2nd year player Sophia Fallea (LaSalle; Villanova) shot a 91 and 2nd year player Megan Schaafsma (Essex; Essex District) shot a 102. For the women three players play with the top two scores counting.
The Saints men are currently sitting in 6th place out of 10 teams in the three day event with a team score of 341. Five players play for each team with the best four scores counting each day. There will be a cut after day two into two divisions with the top five teams qualifying for Division I.
Leading the way for St. Clair was 2nd year player Andrew Pillon (St. Joachim; Belle River District) who shot a 6 over 78 which puts him in a tie for 9th place out of 50 golfers with two more rounds to play. Other scores for the Saints men were Kyle Hameliy (1st Year; Burlington, Corpus Cristi) 85, Simon Desmarais (3rd Year; Windsor, FJ Brennan) 87, Bradley Roughton (2nd Year; Belle River; Belle River District) 91 and Kayden Stammler (1st Year; Comber, Kingsville District) 96.
