St. Clair College Basketball Open League Play with Home Weekend

The St. Clair College Basketball teams will open their OCAA West Division regular season at the SportsPlex Friday night against Redeemer University (Ancaster) but complete a weekend homestand when they host Conestoga College (Kitchener) Saturday afternoon. 

St. Clair Women return six players from last season including 5’2” 3rd year guard Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names), 5’6″ 2nd year guard Lauren Overeem (Brantford, ON),

5’7” 4th year guard Janae Smith (Warren, MI), 5’10” 2nd year swing player Nyra Brown-Henderson (Windsor, ON/Kennedy), 5’6” 2nd year guard Adriana Dubois (Windsor, ON/Walkerville) and 5’5″ 2nd year guard Hailey Pizzale (Timmins, ON).  Murphy was a West Division Second-Team All-Star in 2022-23 and will be finishing her softball season with the Saints before joining the basketball team following the opening weekend. 

Transfer help came in a big way the with the addition of 5th year 5’7″ guard Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford, ON) who was an OUA Rookie of the Year and All-Star at the University of Waterloo.  5th year 6’0″ swing player Jordan Gutt (Haifa, Israel/Hadassim) played for the University of Windsor from 2017-2020 and has international experience from her native Israel. 

Rookies for the St. Clair Women include 5’8” guard Ania Buklarewicz (Mississauga, ON), 5’10” forward Ava Willoughby (Tecumseh, ON/St. Anne), 5’9″ forward Chelsea Crep (Belle River, ON/St. Anne), 5’5″ guard Lily Collins Windsor, ON/Holy Names, 5’9″ forward Quinn MacIsaac (Windsor, ON/FJ Brennan) and 5’3″ guard Paige Sherk (Selkirk, ON). 

The Women tip at 6:00pm Friday night against the Royals and at 2:00pm on Saturday against the Condors. 

The St. Clair Men tip at 8:00pm against Redeemer and 4:00pm on Saturday against Conestoga and still feature a good nucleus of their defending OCAA Gold Medal team from 2022-23 including 5th year 6’3″ guard Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON), 5th year 6’4” forward Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON), 2nd year 5’8” guard Rodi Mazloum (Windsor, ON/Holy Names), 4th year 6’2″ swing Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON), 4th year 6’2” guard Tim Steward (Detroit, MI), 5th year 6’7″ forward/centre Hanani Ujullu (Kitchener, ON), 6’3″ swing William Buffong (Cambridge, ON), 5th year 6’6″ forward Glynn Willis-Paris (Detroit, MI/Kennedy) and 6’3″ swing Adam Mazloum (Windsor, ON/Holy Names).  Vincent-Simon was a Second-Team All-Star in the West Division and an OCAA Championship All-Star selection last season in addition to a CCAA Championship First-Team All-Star award winner. 

6’1″ guard Andrew Loyuk (Windsor, ON/Kennedy Collegiate) is an incoming local talent and will join four transfers including 6’4″ shooting guard Galdo Tutu (Windsor, ON/Holy Names), 6’2″ shooting guard Jadon Tillman (Warren, MI/Hamtramck), 6’0″ guard Ron Hill (Detroit, MI/Pershing) and 6’7″ forward Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy Collegiate).
