St. Clair College Saints Athletes of the Week Ending April 3, 2022
St. Clair College Varsity athletes Natalie Turner (Women’s Indoor Soccer) and Evan Mendonca (Men’s Indoor Soccer) have been named the Saints Athletes of the Week for March 28th to April 3rd.
Turner (Windsor; Holy Names) is a 3rd year goalkeeper who helped lead the Saints to a Bronze Medal at the OCAA Championships in Toronto. Natalie played in all 5 matches for the Saints over two days and only allowed one goal. Unfortunately that one goal was to eventual Gold Medal winners, Seneca College in the Championship semi-final. Not only did Turner play outstanding goal she distributed the ball from the back end to her teammates throughout the event. She also was instrumental in the Saints winning the OCAA regional on March 9 where she did not allow a goal in 3 matches. Turner is currently taking the Paramedic program at St. Clair.
Mendonca (Wallacetown; West Elgin) is a 4th year midfielder for the indoor soccer team. Mendonca scored a goal in the Saints 3-0 win over St. Lawrence College in the first day of round robin play at the OCAA Championships. Unfortunately St. Clair came up just short of qualifying for the Championship semi-final after losing 1-0 to Fanshawe College and 2-1 to Humber College in their other two matches. Fanshawe went on to win the gold while Humber brought home the silver. Evan was also a key player for the Saints in helping them win the OCAA Regionals on March 9 to qualify for the Championships. Mendonca has graduated from the Sport and Recreation Management program is also scheduled to graduate from the Electrical Techniques program this spring.
