JONES BLANKS ST. LOUIS, BLUES SHUTOUT AGAIN TO LIFT SHARKS TO 2-1 SERIES LEAD
Martin Jones (22 SV) registered his second straight shutout (also 26 SV in Game 2) to help the Sharks win Game 3 and take a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference Final.
Jones, who became the first goaltender in Sharks history to earn consecutive shutouts in the postseason, has not allowed a goal in his last 147:43 of playing time dating to the second period of Game 1. Evgeni Nabokov holds the franchise playoff record with a 178:14 shutout streak from April 24-28, 2004.
Jones improved to 10-5 this postseason (1.89 GAA, .927 SV%, 3 SO), including three shutouts in his last four outings (also Game 7 of SR vs. NSH). His 10 wins and three blank sheets both equal franchise records for one playoff year, set by Nabokov in 2004 (17 GP).
San Jose’s top line of Tomas Hertl (2-0—2), Joe Pavelski (0-2—2) and Joe Thornton (0-2—2) provided two of the team’s three goals.
The trio has combined for 17 goals and 38 points in 15 games this postseason (Hertl: 5-3—8, Pavelski: 9-8—17 and Thornton: 3-10—13).
Hertl registered his first career multi-goal playoff game, including his first career game-winning goal in the postseason.
