Riverside Minor Baseball Association to Present Potential Plan for Community Park

The Riverside community are invited to attend a meeting to discuss the future of the Riverside Baseball Park and former Riverside Memorial Arena lands.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 4 at 7pm at the Riverside Minor Baseball Association (RMBA) facility at 6865 Ontario Street in Windsor.

“We have a plan that we’d like to get feedback on from members of our community,” said RMBA Past President and Committee Chair Bill Kell. “This space has been public land for the last 80 years and we’d like to see it continue to be a community asset for decades to come.”

The Association, in cooperation with a number of community partners, has developed a conceptual plan for the site. The plan includes an event stage, multi-use trail, and an accessible “Miracle Field” (a specially-designed diamond which can host wheelchairs and other mobility aids.) Miracle Fields help to remove barriers to sports participation for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities.

The plan also incorporates the current features of the park: two baseball diamonds, Riverside Centennial Pool, as well as relocating the memorial cenotaph to a prominent position, emphasizing the “memorial” roots of the space.

“At this point, we are presenting what’s possible for this space. This meeting is a chance for residents to weigh in on what they’d like to see at the park if it’s going to continue to be a community asset,” Kell added.
