Pool has arrived from Italy and installation has begun at the East Windsor Community Pool at the WFCU Centre.
The work is expected to be complete by the end of February and when finished, the 25-metre pool will have six starting blocks and a one-metre diving area. There will also be a splash pad and therapy pool heating to around 34 degrees celcius. All three bodies of water will have accessibility ramps. The main pool and therapy pool will have ramps and the splash pad will have a beach entry.
Project consultant Don Sadler is excited about what the facility brings to the area. “It’s a community pool. It’s built for the community. We’re going to let the athletes that are coming for the 2016 FINA event borrow the pool for 3 or 4 days to warm up in.”
Project Administrator Stacey McGuire says the construction is on schedule and on budget. “The pool will be ready for occupancy by the beginning of August. We will bring staff in then to prepare for fall programming. All will be ready to go well in advance of the FINA event in December.”
