DETROIT CITY FC TO HOST DAYTON IN FREEDOM HOUSE BENEFIT MATCH

Saturday night, Detroit City FC (2-2-3) welcomes the Dayton Dynamo (1-6-1) to Keyworth Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The match will be played in recognition of Freedom House, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization that supports individuals fleeing persecution around the world. Le Rouge will take the pitch wearing commemorative jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. Proceeds raised from the silent auction will benefit Freedom House.

On May 15, Detroit and Dayton met for the first time. City scored four goals in 12 minutes during its first half in Dayton and took home a 4-2 victory.

Danny Deakin (South Carolina) took charge that day, scoring on a free kick and assisting on the other three goals. Alec Lasinski (Loyola University Chicago) scored twice in three minutes during the flurry.

Dayton has struggled to find its footing in its first National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season. Through eight games, the Dynamo sit at the bottom of the Great Lakes West standings. A win in Kalamazoo and a draw with AFC Ann Arbor at home on June 12 leave the Dynamo with just four points in the league.

Still, the Ohio side is not to be taken lightly, as head coach Ben Pirmann reiterated after Sunday’s 1-0 win over Kalamazoo FC.

“You know they’ll be coming in here fighting like crazy to try and get any points,” he said. “And, they’re a good team.”

Only five league matches remain in the 2016 City season. Le Rouge sits in fifth place with nine points in the Great Lakes West standings with one match in hand. The team controls its own destiny as the race for the division’s two playoff spots gets tighter.
