DISC GOLF COMES TO TECUMSEH
Tecumseh’s Disc Golf Course, located in Lakewood Park at 13451 Riverside Drive, celebrates its grand opening this Saturday, May 27, 2017. Members of Council and the local Windsor-Essex Disc Golf Association will throw out the “first disc.” The event will be held at the first hole at 11:00 a.m. Members public are invited to attend.
“When the Town started planning the improvements to Lakewood Park we knew we wanted to include a number of community amenities,” says Mayor Gary McNamara. “The Disc Golf Course is unique for our area, involved community input and allows users of all ages and abilities to try something new while enjoying the beauty of Lakewood Park.”
The Disc Golf Course was funded by a Federal Canada 150 grant and includes a full regulation course of 18 holes. It is the only disc golf course in southwestern Ontario, west of St. Thomas. Previously, area disc golfers had to travel to Michigan to play.
“Over the last year we have been finalizing a number of attractions within Lakewood Park,” says Paul Anthony, Director Parks & Recreation. “We were approached by the Association and we’re pleased to have been able to accommodate the course and we hope residents and visitors to the Town take advantage of it.”
Lakewood Café offers discs for a $10 deposit for users who do not have the proper gear for the course. “We are very excited to have this course here in Town,” says Scott White from the Windsor-Essex Disc Golf Association. “We worked with the Town on the design and layout and we’re very pleased that Tecumseh recognized what a benefit this could be for residents and visitors.”
