Downtown Mission’s 2020 Golf Tournament – Back On!

The Downtown Mission and its Lead Golf Tournament Sponsor, Landscape Effects Group, have been actively monitoring the Covid-19 Pandemic to decide the course of action regarding this year’s Tournament.

This 8th Annual Event was scheduled for Friday, August 21st to be held at Rochester Place Golf Club & Resort. Organizers say they are pleased to announce that this Event will go on as scheduled to help ensure the work of the Mission will continue to support the growing numbers of men, women, youth and families we have seen through this pandemic.

In accordance with current Public Health mandates and Golf Course best practices, this year’s tournament will abide by all necessary safety precautions and have a limited number of Golfers and Volunteers permitted on the course for the day. Breakfast-to-Go Packs sponsored by Tim Hortons (T&J Enterprises) will be provided for Golfers to take with them in their sanitized Golf Cart and Lunch sponsored by Ground Effects Ltd. will be provided on the beautiful outdoor patio at Rochester Place to finish off this year’s tournament.

“We are so thankful for our compassionate community partners who’ve stepped up in a big way to help us continue the essential services we provide to countless hurting individuals in our community. This pandemic has taught us many things, but a major concern that it brought to the forefront was the fact that many in our community aren’t able to self-quarantine anywhere in certain situations like this if they are required to do so and we ourselves at the Mission weren’t previously providing our services in the safest of ways. We have taken what we’ve seen, what we’ve heard and what we’ve learned to continue to provide our services in a safe manner in the months ahead as our community does what we need to do to keep ourselves moving forward and through this difficult time. We wouldn’t be able to make these changes and move forward without our amazingly supportive community, for that and God’s continued blessings, we are so very grateful.” – Rev. Ron Dunn, Executive Director of the Downtown Mission

This Annual Event for the Downtown Mission is one of a few major Fundraising Events hosted by the Mission and Community Partners to help provide the needed financial support to feed those who are hungry, shelter those experiencing homelessness and provide comfort and hope to those who are hurting. Especially during the difficult and somewhat scary times we have been going through and are still in the midst of, the Mission continues to be a source, if not the only source, of basic needs and a place of solace for hundreds of vulnerable individuals in our community. Since the majority of the Mission’s revenue comes from community donations, events like this helps provide these services for those who need them and helps share our efforts with our generous community.

Those interested in helping make an impact on our community’s most vulnerable by becoming a Sponsor or registering a Foursome for the Mission’s 8th Annual Golf Tournament, please contact Rukshini Ponniah-Goulin, Director of Development at 519-973-5573 X 260. Now, more than ever before, the Mission needs our generous community’s support!
