Erie Otters Edge Windsor Spitfires
Ivan Lodnia scored twice, including the game-winner, and Troy Timpano made 33 saves as the Erie Otters edged the Windsor Spitfires 4-3 at the Erie Insurance Arena Friday night.
Darren Raddysh and Christian Girhiny scored the other goals for the Otters (24-6-2-0).
Cole Purboo, Cristiano DiGiacinto and Sean Day replied for the Spitfires (21-6-4-0) who saw their six-game winning streak come to an abrupt end. Defenceman Mikael Sergachev chipped in with thee assists.
Michael DiPietro made 31 saves in the game and saw his league-leading shutout streak come to an end at 209 minutes and 23 seconds with Raddysh’s first period powerplay goal.
Both teams played the game with depleted lineups as the Spitfires were without Graham Knott (league suspension) Cole Carter (shoulder injury), Gabe Vilardi (appendix) while Juluis Nattinen (Finland) and Logan Brown (United States) were both away at their respective country’s training camps for the upcoming 2017 World Junior Hockey Championships. The Otters, meanwhile had Aex DeBrincat, Erik Cernak, Taylor Raddysh and Dylan Strome all away at world junior camps as well.
The Spitfires schedule has them in action Saturday night when they meet the Niagara IceDogs at the Meridian Centre in St. Catherines.
