Final Home Weekend for St. Clair Volleyball

The St. Clair College volleyball teams are hosting their final home games of the regular season at the Sportsplex this weekend. On Saturday, the Saints will host the Cambrian Golden Shield with the women taking the floor at 2 pm followed by the men at 4 pm. The Saturday matches will be live streamed on www.we-tv.ca . On Sunday St. Clair will take on the College Boreal Viperes with the women starting at 12 noon followed by the men. The Sunday matches will be shown live on Cogeco TV.

For the St. Clair women the weekend will be their final matches before the OCAA Championship. The match is huge for Cambrian who are fighting for a playoff spot with a record of 7-9. St. Clair defeated the Golden Shield 3-1 in Sudbury in early November. Boreal is having a tough season with a record of 0-16 heading into the weekend.

St. Clair is currently 11-5 on the season and are locked into 3rd place in the OCAA West Division. The Saints are ranked 3rd in the OCAA. St. Clair has won 37 sets and only dropped 20. The Saints are led offensively by 3rd year Outside Hitter Kaila Crough who is averaging 3.7 points/set. The St. Clair women are hosting the OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship from February 24-26 at the Sportsplex. As host the Saints are guaranteed a spot in the event that will send the winner to the CCAA Nationals in Victoria, British Columbia.

For the St. Clair men the weekend matches are both must wins to keep their playoff hopes alive. Should the Saints win both matches they will still need help to sneak into the playoffs.

The Cambrian men have a record of 2-14 while Boreal is 0-16 on the year.

St. Clair is currently 7-9 on the season and are in 7th place in the very competitive OCAA West Division. The top 6 teams make the playoffs. The Saints are ranked 8th in the OCAA. The Saints are led offensively by rookie Outside Hitter Oswald Marshall who is averaging 3.9 points/set in his first 6 matches.
