Goo Goo Dolls to Headline Entertainment for 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Citi Field
Grammy-nominated band Goo Goo Dolls will perform at the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic New Year’s Day outdoor game between the New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, the National Hockey League announced today. The game will be broadcast live at 1 p.m. ET on Jan. 1, 2018.
A portion of the first intermission featuring Goo Goo Dolls will be televised. Formed in Buffalo and longtime Sabres fans, the Goo Goo Dolls have sold more than 10 million albums since the band’s inception in 1986. The band has had an unprecedented string of 14 number one songs and top ten multi-format hit singles including “Name,” “Slide,” “Black Balloon,” “Broadway,” “Here Is Gone,” “Big Machine,” “Sympathy,” “Stay With You,” “Let Love In,” “Before It’s Too Late,” “Jim’s Theme” (Treasure Planet),” and “Better Days.” The single, “Iris,” spent nearly 12 straight months on the Billboard charts and held the number one position for 17 consecutive weeks. Rolling Stone magazine ranked “Iris” at number 39 on its list of 100 greatest pop songs.
Additional performers for the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic will be announced in the coming days.
The Rangers will face the Sabres in the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day at Citi Field, continuing the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year. This year’s edition marks the 10-year anniversary of the first NHL Winter Classic in Buffalo.
