St. Clair Green Giants Split Doubleheader June 24 Recap

The St. Clair Green Giants split their double header with the Lake Erie Monarchs on Friday. The Monarchs won the first game 3-2 while the Green Giants took the second 5-4. Both games were tightly contested and went back and fourth throughout.

Game 1 was suspended Thursday night due to inclement weather, with the Monarchs leading 3-2 heading into the bottom of the third. The game resumed Friday afternoon and finished the same way it started with the Monarchs winning 3-2.

In game 2 the Monarchs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by way of a bases loaded hit by pitch. The Green Giants responded in the second inning when Matt Deneau hit a broken bat single to right field to knot the score at 1. In the 3rd inning the Green Giants put up 3 runs highlighted by a Nick Howie double, to take a 4-1 lead. The Monarchs kept clawing their way back throughout the game and trailing by 1 run in the final inning singled in the tying run. In the bottom half of the inning with runners on first and second and one out, Chase Rollin drove in the winning run with a line drive to left to give the Green Giants a 5-4 win.

With the split on Friday the Green Giants record moves to 11-5. They are back at home for a weekend series with the Irish Hills Leprechauns Saturday and Sunday. First pitch for both games is set for 7:05pm at Lacasse Park.
