Grow On Windsor is back at it again!

Each November a curious thing happens, men disregard their standard daily shaving regime, ignore heckles from their wives and friends and let their ‘staches and beards grow with wild abandon. They are banding together to bring awareness to and generate funds for men living with cancer in Windsor Essex County.

With that in mind the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation created a local campaign called Grow On Windsor. This annual initiative allows individuals and corporations to register and raise pledges in support of cancer awareness, research & treatment for men living in Windsor/Essex. In 2017 an estimated 21,300 men were diagnosed with prostate and testicular cancer in Canada.

Last years campaign raised over $190,000 which enabled the foundation to purchase tools used in the treatment of cancer affecting men, such as bladder scanner, vital machine monitors, IV poles, brachy therapy equipment and an immobilization system used for radiation treatment. In two years Grow On and the community has raised over $400,000!

Thanks to generous donors like Lisa and Brian Schwab, our Official 2017 Grow On Sponsor, and our Gold Sponsors; Amico, Cypher Systems Group, and Windsor Regional Hospital, we are hoping this year will be an even bigger success. “Residence of Windsor Essex stepped up to the plate as they always do and we are thrilled with what that will mean to those men in our community living with cancer”, Houida Kassem, Executive Director.

The Windsor Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation was established in 1996 by a group of volunteer’s intent on making the cancer journey one that was less stressful to patients and their families, as well as aiding in the provision of care through the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment. Our mandate has grown over the years to include a commitment to supporting local cancer research, as well as providing short-term assistance to patients experiencing financial need. Thanks to tremendous community support, the Cancer Centre Foundation has raised over $22 million dollars to support these programs at the Cancer Centre at Windsor Regional Hospital and throughout the regional cancer program.
