HABS WIN EIGHTH STRAIGHT, EXTEND POINT STREAK TO 10 GAMES

Carey Price stopped all 42 shots he faced to help Montreal win its eighth straight game and push their season-long point streak to 10 games (9-0-1).

Montreal became the second team in NHL history to win at least nine of its first 10 games in consecutive seasons, joining the Ottawa Senators (1925-26: 9-1-0 and 1926-27: 9-0-1). In 2015-16, the Canadiens had their season-opening nine-game win streak end at the hands of the Canucks (5-1 L).

Price, who improved to 6-0-0 in 2016-17 (.964 SV%, 1.17 GAA, 1 SO), earned his 37th career shutout. Wednesday marked the fourth time that he has posted a shutout when making at least 40 saves (regular season and playoffs).

NHL MUSINGS

  • The Flyers tied the game with 64 seconds left in regulation to set the stage for Jakub Voracek’s overtime goal. Philadelphia, who trailed 2-0 and 3-2, has overcome a multi-goal deficit in three of their five victories this season
  • Claude Giroux assisted on Voracek’s goal to extend his assist/point streak to a career-high 10 games (2-11—13)
  • Flyers forward Roman Lyubimov (8 GP) scored his first NHL goal
  • The Senators acquired goaltender Mike Condon from the Penguins in exchange for a 2017 fifth-round selection
  • Forward Matt Cullen scored the game-winning goal on his 40th birthday after getting surprised with a pie in the face during morning skate.
