Harley Davidson Road King Raffle to Raise $100,000 for Homeless Youth

The Windsor Youth Centre is aiming to raise $100,000 this year with a Harley Davidson Road King raffle by raffling off a Harley Davidson Road King.  This is the first time in its 5-year history that the WYC is running a big-ticket item raffle to bring in the money they need for day-to-day operations.

What makes this raffle different from some others is its affordability.  Tickets cost just $20 but the return on that investment is huge.   5000 tickets are on sale now until New Year’s Eve.  The winning ticket will be drawn at a New Year’s Eve bash hosted by the Moose Lodge.

Tamara Kowalska, Executive Director of the WYC claims, “We don’t receive any financial support from the city or the Ministry, so again we are turning to the community to help us provide for our youth.  And they are stepping up!”  Almost 100 tickets were sold the first day, and local businesses, community groups, and labour organizations are pitching in.

This Harley Davidson raffle appeals to Windsorites says Stephen Hargreaves, WYC Community Developer, “Too many, motorcycles represent bringing people together who may feel like outsiders.”  The Road King will be on view at local area festivals all summer long as well as at Devonshire Mall and other busy venues.  Hargreaves states, “We want to sell tickets but we also want to get the word out that youth in trouble have somewhere to go to get back on track.”

The Moose Lodge is a huge fan of the WYC.  They have already contributed to the success of the raffle in a number of ways and are hosting the actual draw at a New Year’s Eve party featuring live music from 17 North.  Raffle tickets can be purchased at the WYC at 1247 Wyandotte St. E., online at thewindsoryouthcentre.org, or at several festivals and local sites including Moose Lodge, Windsor Chopper, and the New Lauzon Landing where the bike will be on display this Friday night, June 17th.  Keep an eye on the Windsor Youth Centre Facebook page for locations and times or call 519-563-9271.
