It’s Hockey Night in Windsor…at WIFF, the Windsor International Film Festival!

On Tuesday November 1st, WIFF will be showing back-to-back screenings of ICE GUARDIANS (6:00 PM) and HELLO DESTROYER (8:30 PM). Local Stanley Cup winner Kevin Westgarth, who stars in ICE GUARDIANS, will take part in a Q&A following the screening of the film.

“We are so pleased Kevin could join us to discuss both the film, and the important issues the film highlights,” commented WIFF Executive Director, Vincent Georgie. “The films discuss current topical issues surrounding how we teach boys to become adults, particularly within the context of Canada’s national hockey obsession.”

Kevin Westgarth, originally from Amhestburg Ontario, earned a roster spot with the Kings in the fall of 2010, as the enforcer for head coach Terry Murray. He remained with the team until the end of the 2012 season, earning a Stanley Cup Championship.

Joining Westgath, is former Windsor Spitfires Captain and Calgary Flames draft pick Ryan Donally. Donally is currently an assistant coach for the University of Windsor Men’s Hockey Team.

The documentary ICE GUARDIANS explores one of the most controversial and provocative positions in the history of sport and journeys into the lives of those who perform what is undoubtedly the toughest job within the National Hockey League today, the enforcer. This film steps beyond the hype and heads directly to the source of the debate… the players themselves.

Please Note: There is an encore screening of ICE GUARDIANS on Saturday November 5th at 11:25 AM; however, there will be no Q&A following the screening.

HELLO DESTOYER follows a new recruit for the minor league Prince George Warriors, Tyson Burr. Burr is a grinder whose primary tasks are digging the puck out of corners and protecting more skilled players. Tyson inadvertently and almost unconsciously injures an opposing player, and soon finds out that the “family” he has grown up in is a lot more self-serving and cutthroat than he thought.
