For the tenth consecutive year, the Humber Hawks are the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Women’s Volleyball Champions
At the St. Clair College Sportsplex, the Hawks beat the Durham Lords in three straight sets, 25-20, 25-12, 25-18. Both teams had identical undefeated 18-0 records during the regular season.
Humber was led by Windsor native Gabie Miletic, the tournament MVP, who is a third-year setter. The number two ranked team in the nation will now head to British Columbia for the national championships.
The host St. Clair Saints opened up the eight-team provincial championships by beating Algonquin in five sets. After that they faced the Hawks and, while giving Humber all they can handle, went out in three.
St. Clair came very close to winning the bronze medal over last year’s silver medalists, Niagara Knights. After Niagara won the first two sets, 25-22, 25-19, the Saints, backed by a strong and loud home crowd, won the next two, 25-22, 25-22 before bowing in the final set, 15-12.
