One of the rising stars of the Verizon IndyCar Series will help celebrate the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix at Comerica Park with the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. Two-time race winner Josef Newgarden of Ed Carpenter Racing will be the guest of honor and will help celebrate this year’s Grand Prix when the Tigers host the Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow at 1:10 pm.
As a part of the festivities, Newgarden will meet with media members and throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Tuesday afternoon contest. One of the most entertaining and engaging personalities in the Verizon IndyCar Series, and a long-time baseball fan, Newgarden is excited to take the mound at Comerica Park while in town to promote the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle, June 3-5 at Belle Isle Park.
“I’m a baseball fan and I’ve never had the opportunity to throw out a first pitch so I’m super excited to get out there in Detroit on Tuesday, I want to thank the Tigers for making this happen and I’m also looking forward to meeting some of the fans and getting everyone ready for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.”- Josef Newgarden
Fans in attendance at the game will be able to take a photo with the Grand Prix Indy Car located in front of Comerica Park in Columbia Plaza. After getting a chance to warm up on the field before the game, Newgarden will take to the mound and throw out the first pitch just prior to 1 pm. During the game, Newgarden will spend some time with Grand Prix partners and executives before he gets ready to get back in action this weekend in his No. 21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet at the Grand Prix of Long Beach.
“We’re excited to have Josef Newgarden, one of the young stars of the Verizon IndyCar Series, join us in town to build the excitement for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix,” said Bud Denker, Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. “We have a great promotional partnership with the Detroit Tigers and we’re happy to continue the tradition of bringing the Grand Prix to Comerica Park this year with Josef as we give fans a little taste of what they can expect on Belle Isle, June 3-5, at the Grand Prix.”
