A convoy of over 200 Jeeps will be driving throughout Essex County on Sunday, June 5th for the 3rd Annual Jeep Jam Poker Run!
The 3rd Annual Jeep Jam Poker Run is now one of Ontario’s largest Jeep Events and it all started due to a slip and fall!
August 24th, 2012 was a life changer for Debbie Kay, President of the Windsor Jeep Club. She sustained a concussion from a fall and was told by doctors to rest and in a few weeks she should be back to “normal” but recovery was not that easy for her. Balance and vision were just a few of the side effects that she struggled with long after those first few weeks.
In fact not much returned to “normal” she was advised to discontinue driving immediately. After seven months of intensive vision/balance therapy she was told she could go back to driving. What was the first thing she did? She bought the Jeep she has always wanted and began driving herself to her own doctors appointments! “The road to recovery is a long bumpy ride so what better way to do it than in a sweet 4 x 4 Jeep! says the brain injury survivor!”
A lifelong volunteer with numerous charities Kay wanted to pay it forward. She asked her sister Laura Kay, a professional event planner, to help her organize a Jeep themed event to raise money for brain injury survivor programs. With the help of Laura, her family, friends and the local Jeep community the Jeep Jam Poker Run was born!
“In less than 3 years we have raised $26 000 and our goal for this year’s event is to raise another $20 000. We expect to host over 500 participants! The money stays local and supports local brain injury programs” – Gord Causton, VP Windsor Jeep Club.”
The large convoy of Jeeps will depart from the Ciociaro Club and then travel a scenic 105 kilometers throughout Essex County. Stops along the way include the Verdi Club, Heritage Villiage, and the Knights of Columbus hall in McGregor. At each stop participants will get a playing card. “You don’t need to know how to play poker. Our volunteers will record what cards you pulled at each of the stops and then the Pit Boss will determine who the winner is at the after party“explained Debbie. “There are prizes for the best hands and the absolute worst! All good fun for a great cause. The public are encouraged to come out and see the Jeeps and join the fun at the after party!” adds Laura Kay.
The Jeep Jam Poker Run will take place — On Sunday, June 5th at the Ciociaro Club. Event starts at 10 am. The after party will start at 3pm.
The funds raised will be directed to Assisted Living Southwestern Ontario’s (A.L.S.O) Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) programs and services.
