Smith, 32, recently completed his third season behind the Spitfires bench and his first with Head Coach Rocky Thompson and Associate Coach Trevor Letowski.

He previously spent the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons as the club’s video coach. “It was important for us to get Jerrod back,” Rychel said. “He’s come a long way since he joined us five years ago. He’s very good with the players and I thought he, Rocky and Trevor had a great year together. I think we’ve got one of the premier coaching staffs in the CHL. And with a big season ahead, we wanted to keep that momentum going.”

Smith says he’s looking forward to a big year in a group he enjoys being part of day-to-day.

“I’m obviously thrilled to be back,” he said. “This organization has shown me nothing but loyalty and respect since the day I started. I love working with Rocky and Trevor and I’m proud of what we accomplished last season. We’ve got a big year coming up. Hosting the MasterCard Memorial Cup is a great opportunity. There’s no place I would rather be.”
